      ZF Active Safety and Electronics US, LLC has job openings for the position of Engineer III - Systems based out of its location in Livonia, MI.

      Job Duties: Responsible to expand modeling capabilities for quantitative evaluation of system requirements by creating multi-domain mathematical models and simulations; Perform thermal, vibration, structural & additional mathematical analysis of complex electro-mechanical hardware systems; Apply understanding of physics of thermal-fluid systems, solid mechanics, materials, power electronics, & computational methods, in developing simulations & experimental test setups for validation; Work closely with interdisciplinary team of engineers & technicians to establish/improve product development; Participate in design & verification of electro-mechanical system components; Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors, networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise; Develop simulations & computational models for domains including electro-mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, vibration & structural for projects; Perform analyses using models to assess requirements compliance & leverage models to develop requirements on sub-system components inclu. motors, power electronics, & mechanical sub-components; Develop, implement reduced order models for sub-systems to improve computational efficiency; Develop tools & methods to assess performance; Work with customers (internal & external) to evaluate solutions; Perform trade studies to optimize sub-system designs; Plan, organize, conduct model validation testing to confirm model results; Document models, analysis through written reports; Support application teams; Share technical knowledge with platform teams; System & product definition per ZF development methods & Industry Safety standards; Oversee information in systems engineering tools (model based & document based); and Support system engineering process definitions & rollout of systems engineering tools. A hybrid (in-office and telecommute) work schedule is available.

      Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Engineering Physics, or closely related field, plus 2 years of experience in engineering (or closely related) occupations requiring design and analysis, and demonstrated experience with: Fundamentals of engineering mechanics; Fundamentals of heat transfer; Fundamentals of thermodynamics; Fundamentals of fluid mechanics; Fundamentals of computational methods (including Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis); Fundamentals of statistical analysis methods; Fundamentals of electricity and power electronics; First-principles and physics-based models as applied in the Automotive or other safety critical industry; Design and analysis of complex electronics for Brake Control systems or similar complex ECUs; Developing test plans, instrumentation and carrying out tests on electronic hardware; Requirement capture and allocations; Requirement traceability; Mentoring less experienced engineers in technical work; Software and model development in ANSYS suite (including Icepak, Mechanical and SI Wave); Software and model development in Matlab/Simulink; Software and model development in CAD modeling tools (including Spaceclaim, Solidworks, and Creo); Software and model development in Optimization tools (including Excel and Workbench); Software and model development in DOORS; and Software and model development in CAN tools.
