      Engineer, Principal – Controls Engineer

      Remote

      Your Day-to-Day:

      We are seeking a Principal Controls Engineer to lead the development, implementation, and strategic advancement of control systems for our BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) projects. This senior technical role requires extensive experience with PLC programming, SCADA systems, and HMI development, along with proven leadership capabilities in managing complex renewable energy control system initiatives.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced PLC-based control systems for large-scale renewable energy projects.
      • Maintain PLC Source code in repository system to track changes for continuous improvement.
      • Establish and enforce control system standards, best practices, and design methodologies.
      • Drive innovation in HMI development using Ignition Perspective platform and emerging technologies.
      • Author project documents such as Plant Control Narratives for major projects.
      • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities and establish testing protocols.
      • Serve as subject matter expert for complex control system troubleshooting and risk mitigation.
      • Interface with customers, vendors, and regulatory bodies on technical control system requirements.
      • Provide technical guidance to commission teams during startup activities.
      • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and evaluate new control technologies for future implementation.
      • Manage project technical risks and provide escalation support for critical control system issues

      Who You Are:

      As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

      Required Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
      • 15+ years of experience with PLC programming and industrial control systems
      • Proficiency in programming using function blocks, structured text, and ladder logic
      • Experience with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC, etc.)
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Experience with Schneider M340 or M580 PLCs
      • Experience with Ignition HMI platform
      • Knowledge of renewable energy systems, particularly solar PV and battery storage
      • Understanding of electrical power systems and instrumentation
      • Experience with project lifecycle from design through commissioning
      • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for control systems
