      Position Overview

      The Technical Process Engineer will develop, produce, and evaluate new products and process improvements, as well as projects to improve current products and processes. Conduct research and trials (lab, pilot, line) in pursuit of incremental, significant, and transformational innovation for Yarn and Soft floorcovering, specifically but not limited to Residential Division. Supporting yarn plants within the Residential Division as needed. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to process improvement, raw materials, quality and claims improvement, research and development. This position reports to the Director of Product Development and Application.

      Responsibilities:

      • Develop new and improved yarn systems through current and new technology processes.

      • Improve and develop products/processes based on customer requirements.

      • Attend periodic meetings with fiber extrusion and yarn/carpet manufacturing for the purpose of continuous improvements in the area of safety, quality, cost, etc. Make periodic visits to extrusion plants.

      • Act as Liaison for Extrusion, Yarn and Carpet Plants for outside suppliers on quality/process problems.

      • Evaluate new processes and equipment as requested at various plants.

      • Assist in installation and startup of new machinery and equipment.

      • Attend MTR and XR Reviews as needed – Provide samples to extrusion plants and corporate testing labs as necessary.

      • Set up trials and evaluations using MDM/MTR system – Following trials closely and report findings to extrusion plants. Plan follow-up trials as required .

      • Provide engineering support by troubleshooting quality/process problems in order to identify and implement solutions.

      • Monitor fiber inventories working closely with production planning and residential yarn technical to deplete stranded pounds.

      • Isolate yarn, which has questionable quality with restrictions for its use. Find an end use for all F,R,and S coded yarns which is the most forgiving, and arrange for the special processing of this yarn.

      • Investigate TWHS processing issues with plant quality and technical staff to resolve issues with singles yarn. Such issues could include excessive yarn breaks, poor packaging, mislabeled yarn, suspicious dye tails, luster variation, etc.

      • Review any off quality carpet with yarn and carpet plants to determine defect cause. Dissect streaks from carpets and submit samples to Corporate Labs and extrusion plants for specific tests to be performed. Use expertise to determine differences in streak tufts and control tufts.

      • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Product Development and Applications.

      Requirements:

      • 4-year degree

      • 2+ years’ experience in a process or technical engineer role

      Preferred:

      • Engineering, Technical, or Science Degree

      • Yarn or Extrusion process or technical engineering experience

      Work Shift

      8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts AM
