      Purpose

      • Handle technical problem-solving projects across the Safety Test and Investigations Laboratories with a focus on identifying the root cause of safety defects. Lead cross functional teams of investigators, engineers, and scientists to solve complex and difficult manufacturing or design problems.
      • Identify and support implementation of Preventive Actions associated with root causes of safety defects.

      Major Responsibilities

      • Involved with problem-solving activities around safety defects investigations, such as technical communication with investigators, root-cause analysis, and proposal of effective solutions.
      • Apply a structured problem-solving methodology (such as Shainin, Six Sigma or equivalent).
      • Maintain high standards for root cause determination, analysis quality, and reporting.
      • Communicate effectively with Safety Office team members keeping team informed of status and progress of activities to support investigations.
      • Exercise independent judgement to conduct field inspections of post-event vehicles or in-service vehicles at dealerships or alternate locations, if necessary.

      Authority

      • Position requires attaining and maintaining a high level of technical knowledge about Hyundai vehicles and automotive components to assist in identifying potential vehicle safety conditions. This position will have access to Hyundai expertise needed to complete investigations and a direct line to upper management to inform of critical issues identification.
      • Evaluate and validate field action repairs related to recall campaigns on safety matters.
        Liaise with Hyundai design, manufacturing, and supplier affiliates.

      Education

      ~ Must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Physics, or a Science related to forensics or materials engineering.

      Related Experience

      • Four or more years of overall relevant experience is required.
      • Experience directly related to automotive defects investigations including material and process analysis, product development failure modes analysis, manufacturability issues, and production qualification.
      • Experience applying problem solving tools: Shainin Red X, Six Sigma, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, 8D, DMAIC, 5 Whys
      • Experience in gathering and analyzing statistical data.

      Skills/Knowledge

      • Results-driven with excellent project and program management skills.
      • Ability to proactively collaborate with peers, vehicle component experts and leadership within the organization and creatively problem solve needed to complete investigations.
      • Ability to concurrently manage a range of evaluations in a timely manner.
      • Ability to accurately analyze high-volume technical data.
      • Ability to present findings to others.
