• Identify PPAP(Production Parts Approval Process) requirements;
• Dimensional Reports, Process Flow, Control Plan, PFMEA, DFMEA, Materials Certificate, etc.;
• Evaluate supplier PPAP submission for conformance to specifications and compliance to requirements;
• Conduct supplier audits and coach for continuous improvement;
• Evaluate QN(Quality Notification) root cause and corrective action responses from suppliers for accuracy and effectiveness;
• Assist purchasing in cost reduction and supplier cost recovery projects with existing suppliers;
• Identify process gaps and make recommendations for correction;
• Lead and manage nonconforming supplier material investigations with containment, rework and cost recovery;
• Work closely with PR Design Engineering and Purchasing to ensure supplied components meet PR specifications;
• Apply advanced knowledge of manufacturing and engineering processes to guide improvement and solutions
• Lead and drive supplier performance improvements;
• Program manage capability efforts to include documented project plan with specific actions and deadlines;
• Report out regularly, updating leadership.
Required:
• Engineering degree (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical) or equivalent training and experience.
Preferred:
• MS in engineering or MBA.
Required:
• Quality professional with experience and knowledge of fabrications, welding, machining, & electrical rotating;
• Function in accordance with the principles outlined in the Code of Conduct and Values in Action;
• Proficient oral and written skills;
• Understanding of DFMEA and PFMEA methodology;
• Understanding of manufacturing processes and controls;
• Knowledge of PPAP/SPAP, control plans, capability analysis;
• Strong leadership and communication skills; collaborative; change agent qualities;
• Creative thinking capability for problem solving, 8D, 5Y methodology;
• Considerable creativity and initiative to problem solve, identify solutions as well as improvement opportunities;
• Ability to travel up to 50%.
Preferred:
• Knowledge of locomotive, background in heavy manufacturing;
• Background in automotive quality principles (APQP, AIAG, etc.);
• Knowledge of six sigma, lean manufacturing and corrective action planning; Six sigma black belt a plus;
• Knowledge of SAP, metrology, statistical measurement capability.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions:
• Strength – Position involves work in a standard office environment. Frequent sitting. Occasional standing, walking. Rare lifting;
• Motion – Position requires standard repetitive motions and hand/eye coordination associated with research and central office communications;
• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent communications, including both talking and hearing;
• Work Environment – Position will typically be located in an office environment;
• Emotional Demands – Position is vital to the organization, as no service or support product can enter multiple Progress Rail facilities without Indirect Sourcing Team; high degree of flexibility and demand with ability to work with a team to accomplish the mission;
• Safety – Position is primarily limited to general office safety and travel requirements; however, visits to industrial locations may require the use of PPE.
