Job Description

- Conducts field inspections, including work done by contractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Drafts and recommends approval of contract change orders and payments.
- Reviews computerized software drafting programs, ink, or pencil drafting of drawings and maps.
- Assist with developing, analyzing and generating technical reports by preparing a variety of reports, correspondence, and official documents.
- Research, investigate, and respond to appropriate stakeholder/agencies by meeting with other city of Wilmington departments, external agencies, and interested parties.
- Inspect and monitor projects for compliance by reviewing work completed by contractors and monitoring compliance to specifications.
- Assists in the preparation of preliminary, periodic and final estimates of quantities, materials, equipment, labor and facilities for the preparation of budgets, programs, schedules, partial and final contract payments and other purposes.
- Performs statistical analysis to ensure recommendations are within guidelines.
- Attends meetings with coworkers, contractors, outside agencies and/or with members of the public as required.
The purpose of this position is to assist the Transportation Planning Engineer in the design and construction of federally funded capital projects, to provide coordination of review of Traffic Impact Analyses (TIA), to assist in the administration of the STBGP-DA/TASA grant program and to provide technical support to the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization (WMPO).Performs routine civil/transportation engineering tasks under the supervision of the Transportation Planning Engineer, while gaining the skills s/he needs to lead and manage projects.
Under close supervision of a Professional Engineer, perform routine engineering tasks or assignments. Exercise limited judgement within defined methods, procedures, and practices.
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a closely related field of study.
Experience: At least one (1) or more years of civil engineering, traffic engineering, project management, construction management or similar professional work experience (may include internships).
Other Requirements: Valid Driver's License
Notes: Driving and criminal history check required for the selected candidate. The selected candidate will also be required to complete a post-offer drug screen.Physical Demands: Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
Working Conditions: This position requires work both in an indoor/office setting as well as performing site inspections of construction sites and developed properties.About the company
