      Performs technical work in engineering construction inspection. This position works closely with contractors to monitor and verify installations are in accordance with approved contract documents. This is a skilled, technical position, working independently under the general direction of the Land Development Manager and under the direct supervision of the Engineering Inspection Supervisor.

      • Daily Work Report (DWR) of Contractor’s field operations and inspections.
      • Measure distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of construction activity/layout.
      • Verify work levels, alignment, and elevation of construction activity/installations.
      • Observe and validate that workmanship, procedures and materials conform to plans and specifications.
      • Record quantities of materials received or used during specified periods in the DWR.
      • Maintain a daily pay item quantities of construction activities.
      • Reviews plans for construction within County Rights-of-Ways for compliance with County standards.
      • Reviews and provides recommendations for Right-of-Way Permit issuance.
      • Monitor and inspect approved right-of-way and site plan projects and verify that the site is constructed in accordance with County Standards and all rights-of-way are restored to proper condition.
      • Monitor and inspect stormwater drainage facilities for site plans, and land development.
      • Collect video and/or photographic data under the general direction of the Engineering Inspection Supervisor or Roadway Production Manager.
      • Work independently in all phases of the Engineering Department's permitting and inspection program under the general supervision of the Engineering Inspection Supervisor or Roadway Production Manager.
      • Ability to check plan grades and in-place staking for proposed construction and, if required, set grade stakes at proper elevations for culverts and driveways, and inspect staking compliance with approved plans and County regulations.
      • Investigates water or flooding conditions, complaints, etc. in the County's right-of-way. Gathers field data and condition descriptions that are necessary for preparation of detailed drawings, cross sections, and data reports.
      • Complete daily construction reports, manually or electronically. Prepare detailed data reports or summaries of work and/or deficiencies to present to County Engineering Staff, Developers, and Contractors.


      Education/Experience:


      Associate degree, or High school graduate plus two (2) years' experience in roadway/asphalt construction inspection or an equivalent combination of formal education and working experience.


      Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:


      • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.
      • Preferred Qualifications:
      • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
      • CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
      • Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Training and Certification for Inspectors and Contractors
      • FDOT Intermediate MOT


      Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:


      • Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials and equipment common to building construction and to street and sidewalk construction.
      • Knowledge of applicable legal and administrative regulations relative to subdivision, utility and general County construction.
      • Knowledge of the basic principles of civil engineering as they relate to County government and construction.
      • Ability to read and interpret a variety of blueprints, plans and specifications applicable to County Construction.
      • Ability to make detailed technical inspections and to enforce regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially.
      • Ability to perform/confirm field drainage calculations for driveway elevations and make judgment decisions concerning culvert pipes.
      • Ability to effectively use electronic communication, spreadsheets and word documents to record and document work activities.



      ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :


      • Work is performed outside under various types of weather conditions.
      • Must be able to traverse uneven surfaces typical to natural terrain, roadway and site development construction sites.
      • Must be able to lift and carry 20-lbs.
