      Engineering Intern

      SUMMARY OF POSITION: Responsible for providing support for the engineering teams for commercialization of medical devices, primarily for the orthopedic industry including hip, knee, and spine segments. There are three primary rotations available with specific focuses on design and development (GDC), manufacturing engineering, and quality engineering.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Co-Op/Intern will have a strong technical foundation and aptitude couple with strong communication skills and the ability to learn quickly. He or she will support the commercialization of complex new products. This includes, but is not limited to:

      • Design & Development Engineer Rotation:
        • Under general supervision, conceptualizes, designs, and develops complex new products.
        • Assist in various aspects of the project as required (timelines, prototypes, testing, suppliers).
        • May work on multiple projects simultaneously.
        • Drives problem solving of design related issues.
        • Research, specify and make recommendations for materials and/or alternative solutions that meet project requirements.
        • Generate appropriate documentation as required per Paragon Design Control Procedures.
        • Assist in compliance with ISO, FDA, and other applicable regulations.
      • Manufacturing Engineer Rotation:
        • Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) with the Client.
        • Support Device Master Record (DMR) development.
        • Assist in developing product process flows including value stream mapping, process and product characteristics, and CTQ flow through.
        • Assist in pFEMA development and team discussions along with managing the risk mitigation activities and testing.
        • Support Control Plan (CP) development including inspection methodology, prevention controls, detection controls, reaction plans, inspection frequency rationale, and ongoing monitoring.
        • Generate engineering test protocols and reports for process characterization and process testing.
      • Quality Engineer Rotation:
        • Monitor and analyze quality performance for new product development.
        • Support device design for inspection.
        • Participate in all quality activities associated with new product development.
        • Generate gage designs.
        • Analyze data and identifies trends to improve the quality of a given process based on statistical analysis and develop sampling rationale.
        • Lead special quality projects for continuous improvement activities.
        • May participate in internal and/or supplier audits.

      OCCASIONAL DUTIES:

      • Special projects as assigned.
      • Participation in cadaver studies.
      • Once employee demonstrates competency in position, he/she may be required to train others in similar roles.

      EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION: Working toward a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering preferred.

      SKILLS: Attention to detail required. Good written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Ability to work under direct supervision. General understanding of human anatomy required. Understand how to apply geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T) required. Self-starter/motivator for personal and professional growth. 3D CAD modeling experience preferred along with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel application).
