      job summary:
      The Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers to uphold and enhance the packaging machinery product line, aimed at bolstering the sale of the company's paperboard and cartons, while fostering the expansion of the global paperboard carton market.

      responsibilities:
      • Oversee the Machinery Product Line and Engineering Group, including the management of both direct reports and matrix organization for development projects and ongoing field activities.

      • Foster the growth of engineers through mentorship, engagement, and training initiatives.

      • Coordinate engineering design activities and machinery manufacturing projects to align with customer specifications, schedules, and budgets.

      • Provide comprehensive sales support for standard and customized packaging systems and engineering services.

      • Continuously enhance the existing product line to maintain a competitive edge and identify new opportunities for packaging sales.

      • Analyze challenges and identify efficiency improvement prospects in carton converting operations, proposing and executing efficiency enhancement projects.

      • Establish design and manufacturing standards for machinery systems across multiple manufacturing locations.

      • Develop estimates and schedules for proposal generation, as well as deliver presentations to clients.

      • Lead top-level conceptual design efforts for large machinery systems using the SolidWorks 3D CAD system integrated with SmarTeam PDM system.

      • Continuously enhance system performance, safety, and ergonomics.

      • Monitor market trends to define machinery and carton system requirements.

      • Directly oversee the development and implementation of machinery and carton systems, collaborating with customers, sales, and marketing teams to translate customer requirements into practical packaging solutions.

      • Manage concept-to-reality machinery development projects, creating system performance specifications and features while balancing customer needs and development costs.

      • Develop project proposals, plans, schedules, and budgets for senior management approval, and implement and oversee approved project plans.

      • Manage in-field project and service operations, troubleshooting, and resolving problems as they arise.
      Education/Experience

      • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent technical experience.

      • Minimum six years design/build experience in packaging machinery or similar machinery.

      • CAD design experience with 2D and 3D modelling systems.

      • Demonstrable experience with manufacturing processes and production: milling, turning, welding, sheet-metal, assembly, etc.

      • Basic understanding of PLC systems, programming, and motion control.

      • Project management experience should include supervision of project teams, and interaction with and oversight of, industrial customer schedule, budget, and quality objectives.

      • Extensive CAD skills, SolidWorks preferred.
