      MT Program:

      The Management Trainee Program is a non-rotational program that develops leaders who will drive the future of our organization. It is a paid, full-time program for recent graduates with less than four years of professional work experience. Career opportunities will follow with hard work, the desire to learn, and the ability to develop productive working relationships.

      Upon arrival at BNSF, Management Trainees receive an overview of our railroad and industry during orientation at our Fort Worth, Texas headquarters. Once the one-week orientation is complete, Management Trainees move into their assigned departments for on-the-job training, if in corporate departments (Accounting/Finance, Corporate Audit, Human Resources, Marketing, Sourcing, or Technology Services). If in an operations department (Engineering, Mechanical, or Transportation), following orientation, you will spend time at our Technical Training Center in Overland Park, Kan., learning to lead a diverse workgroup to safely and efficiently accomplish work assignments and goals that are in line with the company's vision.

      NCS (Network Control Systems):

      • The BNSF Infrastructure team is challenged every day with keeping our extensive IT infrastructure highly available. We create, maintain, and enhance architecture, security, tools, information, data centers, and so much more.
      • The key to successfully managing our business is to understand and to be able to interpret massive amounts of information. In connection with that information, security is also critical along with compliance and planning - when there are disruptions or disasters.
      • Trainees will broaden their knowledge of modeling data, designing, and supporting our database systems across the mainframe, mid-tier, and data warehouse environments, while ensuring the security, integrity, and availability of information maintains an environment conducive to sharing information for business purposes.
      • BNSF will also support and assist in full-time Engineering employees who wish to complete testing and obtain their PE license.

      Some concepts and tools we use:

      • Data modeling concepts (Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Models), Erwin Data Modeler tools, DB2 LUW, Oracle, SQL Server, Informatica, Tibco, Metadata management, Access DB, Visio, Eclipse, Chef, TeamForge, Rational Software Development Platform, Web Services, .NET Development, SDLC and many more.

      WORKING CONDITIONS:

      • Primarily an office environment with some field activities.
      • Normal 40 office hours, Monday through Friday, with weekend or evening work as required.

      SPECIFIC REQUIREMENT:

      • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.

      BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Must have a 2.50 or higher cumulative GPA in a Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related program OR a 2.75 or higher cumulative GPA with a non-Engineering degree.
      • Valid Driver’s License.
      • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Computer Science, Technology, or an Engineering program from an accredited university to be completed prior to hire OR have obtained a degree within the past four (4) years.
      • Must have less than four (4) years of work experience in a professional work environment, excluding internships or positions held while in high school or college.
      • Authorization to work in the US without Company sponsorship now AND in the future.
      • General understanding required of Information Systems, including knowledge of application development, database administration, business intelligence, personal computers, and/or local area networks.
      • Strong drive for results and superior communications and teamwork skills to gather information from BNSF employees to identify and resolve problems.
      • Not require BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise), now or in the future, to obtain, maintain, or extend my employment authorization (including H-1B or TN nonimmigrant status).

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Experience with one or more of the following programming languages and tools such as Java, C/C++, .Net (C#), ABAP, HTML5 and/or COBOL.
      • Experience in Cellular or Telecommunications related environment.
      • Proven leadership experience and excellent oral and written communication.
      • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Machine Learning, Computer, Network or Software Engineering, Management/Business Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, OR any other Technical/Engineering related degree.
      • Ability in any of the following is preferred: applications development, project management, mobile device development methodologies, database design, modeling, mining, data management, data warehouse concepts, network planning and engineering and voice/video systems.

      Our Management Trainee program is geared towards recent college graduates with four years or less of experience in a post-collegiate professional work environment.
