      The Challenge
      We're looking for an Experienced Engineering Technician to join our Traffic Services team.
      In this role, you will:
        • Conduct independent moderate to complex investigations/inspections for Division 4 Traffic Services operations and facilities to ensure compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), NCDOT Standards and Specifications, and contract agreements.
        • Conduct Traffic Services data collection activities, including traffic counts, available sight distances, asset inventories, and inventory condition surveys.
        • Conduct traffic ordinances, traffic engineering investigations – including signing and pavement markings, and assisting with LOGO signing (survey and contract duties).
        • Serve as a project inspector conducting independent moderate to complex inspections and survey work for signing and pavement marking installations to ensure project construction is in compliance with contract agreements, plans, standards, and specifications.
        • Complete daily dairies, sample cards, material received forms, and monthly estimates.
        • Use your skills in decision making and exercise good judgment.
      What You Bring
        • Computer skills using Microsoft Office and other apps, such as TEAAS, GIS, SAP, PETRAPro, and PCWarrants.
        • Working knowledge and understanding of NCDOT concepts, practices, and theories used in the construction and maintenance of roadway facilities with limited supervision.
        • Thorough understanding of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and NCDOT Standards and Specifications relating to these assets.
        • Ability to document findings and to take corrective actions.
        • Communications skills to clearly and concisely convey information verbally and in writing to individuals and groups, and to listen and respond appropriately to others.
        • Ability to evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation.
        • Ability to establish positive communication between technicians, engineers, and contractors.
        • You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
        • Basic math skills.
        • Basic knowledge conducting routine compliance inspections with contract agreements, standards/codes, and specifications.
        • Experience maintaining/completing standard records, reports, and correspondence.
        • Demonstrated ability to read and understand blueprints/construction drawings and perform measurements related to distances and elevations.
        • Fitness to work and carry equipment on steep and rough terrain and to carry at least 50 pounds.
        • Proficiency in recordkeeping.
        • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
      Education & Experience
        • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline, and
        • 3+ years of technician experience; or
        • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
      Note
        • You will be working inside and outside in a wide range of environmental conditions and may be exposed to high traffic volumes and adverse weather conditions.
