      Qualifications


      Qualifications for GS-09 : At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level is required. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level is required. Examples of specialized experience include: Performing a variety of engineering design and drafting tasks and applying engineering practices to, mechanical, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, sprinkler systems, plumbing systems and equipment; extracting and analyzing data from engineering handbooks, manufacturer’s catalogs and manuals, and agency publications; selecting alternative designs and methods to satisfy specific requirements. Working independently with responsibilities for planning and preparation of a block of work which is a complete conventional project of relatively limited scope, or a portion of a larger and more diverse project. Assignments require research, analysis, and consideration of several possible courses of action, techniques, general layouts, or designs; and selection of the most appropriate. Changes and deviations driven by engineering change and/or unforeseen requirements are incorporated as required during project development and execution. Utilizes automated computer graphics systems in addition to manual drafting and design.

      Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree directly related to the duties of the position

      Qualifications for GS-08 : At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level is required. Examples of specialized work experience include: Preparing drawings for mechanical, and structural components such as heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, sprinkler systems, plumbing systems and equipment in place fit with in design space allocations. Drawings require versatility in the application of drawing techniques and delineation of all necessary views, sections, profiles, details, dimensions, notes, schedules, etc. Computing dimensions, scale and determining the best placement of features, and most appropriate views to give proper emphasis, clarity of detail and professional appearance to the finished drawing. Developing complete layouts with supporting detail drawings of components, assemblies, and systems. Reviewing drawings to ensure that drafting work is accurate, well arranged, contains appropriate dimensioning and notes, and provides the details and views requested by the engineer or designer.

      Qualifications for GS-07: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level is required. Examples include: Preparing Contract Drawings for new and/or renovated facilities, equipment, and systems. Project information may be in the form of general concept layouts, rough sketches, full designs, verbal or written information. Preparing layouts that require a high degree of accuracy to ensure the placement of items such as, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, sprinkler systems, plumbing systems and equipment in place fit with in design space allocations. Drawings contain information concerning location, design materials, dimensions, and details that are required to carry out the construction project. Plans methods for portraying original designs using drafting experience and technical guidelines to resolve problems. Searches manufacture's catalogs and standards manuals for design characteristics such as dimensional data, code requirements, and installation procedures. Selects, interprets, and applies technical guidelines when precedent drawings are not applicable.

      Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to meet qualification requirements.

      If selection is made below the full performance level, the incumbent may be promoted up to the target grade without further competition, if all legal and regulatory requirements are met and when recommended by the supervisor. However, promotion to the full performance level is not guaranteed and is dependent on successful performance at the lower grade level(s)

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

      The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
