- Prepares engineering designs, pavement marking plans, drawings, maps, sketches, and reports for existing and proposed motor vehicle roadways, on and off-street bikeways, sidewalks and intersection reconfigurations using Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software (Bentley MicroStation, AutoTURN and InRoads).
- Prepares and reviews technical design requirements, standards and specifications for various complex municipal linear infrastructure and transportation planning projects
- Administers, prepares, and reviews requirements, engineering designs, reports, specifications, and any related documentation
- Carries out advanced technical work for the planning, design and tendering of municipal linear infrastructure projects
- Assists engineers, project managers, and other management staff and carries out technical work for the planning, design, tendering, construction, and inspection of municipal infrastructure
- Prepares drafts of technical and/or tender of documents including engineering estimates and related calculations
- Performs and/or reviews research and calculations and analyzes technical data
- Prepares, reviews, and interprets technical drawings and plans
- Investigates and responds to inquiries from the public, consultants, and contractors related to technical, contract or design projects and participates in public consultations
- Conducts field surveys, investigations, review of existing conditions and studies related to multi-modal safety, planning processes and new capital project design
- Post-secondary education in an accredited Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering program or the equivalent in education and experience
- Extensive experience utilizing Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) such as Bentley MicroStation, AutoTURN and InRoads to produce alignments, profiles, cross-sections, pavement marking and barrier/divider designs, as well as other computer software including Microsoft Excel, Word, etc. in a design environment
- Considerable office and field experience in the design of complex municipal infrastructure including motor vehicle roadways, on and off-street bikeways, sidewalks, and intersection reconfigurations
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant regulations, statutes, standards, guidelines, and practices such as Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS), Ontario Provincial Standards Drawings (OPSD), Transportation Association of Canada Geometric Design Guide (TAC), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Ontario Traffic Manuals (OTM), National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) Street Design Guides
- Experience in the principles of traffic engineering technologies, theories, and practices
- Experience preparing drafts of contract documents including writing specifications and estimating quantities
- Ability to organize transportation studies and recommend appropriate solutions with emphasis on meeting deadlines
- Familiarity with active transportation and vision zero policies
- Excellent diagnostic and analytical skills
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization as well as with external clients and the public
- Strong writing skills and ability to prepare correspondence and reports
- GIS and traffic simulation software experience would be considered an asset
- Adobe Creative Suite experience including Illustrator and InDesign experience would be considered an asset

Transportation Services is seeking to fill one ten-month Engineering Technologist Technician 1 (ETT1) position in the Cycling and Pedestrian Projects unit.As a successful ETT1 employee, you will be responsible for tasks involving the planning, preliminary engineering/civil design, final design and construction preparation and delivery stages of multi-disciplinary municipal infrastructure capital delivery and planning projects.
You will help to shape the future of Toronto's streets with a focus on safety, comfort, and multi-modal transportation. You will work across the Division, with external partners and the public. It is an exciting time to join the City of Toronto's Transportation Services Division.
