Under the direction and supervision of an Operating Engineer:
Maintain, repair and ensure the efficient operation of all building systems including but not limited to mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls) electrical (lighting, generators), fire/life safety, and hot water systems.
Monitor operation, adjust, and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment and ventilating and hot water heaters, pumps, valves, piping and filters.
Perform various services for customers (tenants) as requested.
Responsible for understanding and complying with safety and emergency escalation procedures.
Receive work assignments, plan work to be performed, and obtain necessary tools, equipment, and materials.
Complete work/assignments and paperwork in a timely manner.
Keep the shop, equipment rooms, and common areas clean, organized, and safe.
Provide proper care to the assigned equipment, tools, and uniforms.
Respond to customer (tenant) requests and complaints.
Assist Building Management team with emergency situations (e.g., fire alarms, chemical spills, hazardous conditions) and take appropriate actions
Promote and contribute toward overall effort in maintaining a high standard in the operation and appearance of the building as well as positive customer (tenant) relations through daily work practices.
Ensure strict adherence to building rules and regulations and safety procedures.
Organize and coordinate responsibilities efficiently.
Handle multiple tasks.
Communicate effectively with coworkers, customers (tenants), and vendors.
Other duties as assigned.
Passion for maintaining health and safety standards while creating a hospitable and welcoming atmosphere.
Ability to perform all work using the proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
In strict accordance, ability to perform all applicable safety policies, procedures, and practices.
Have thorough knowledge of building systems and their respective operating sequences, strategies, and best practices.
Demonstrate aptitude for mechanical systems, as well as computer-controlled equipment.
Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn.
High school diploma or state equivalent.
Possess basic mechanical aptitude.
Exhibit a willingness to learn.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision and as a productive member of a team.
Basic computer skills necessary including working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word)
Ability to travel between floors and buildings including frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and working/extending overhead indoors and outdoors with varying temperature ranges from 0 – 100+.
Work at heights with A-Frame and extension ladders from 5ft to 16ft using buddy system and following all OSHA guidelines and safety precautions.
Work in confined spaces, following all OSHA guidelines and safety precautions.
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.
Must be able to stand for an extended period, at a minimum of 8 hours.
Must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, place objects less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
Ability to understand and communicate in English, verbally and written.
Wear Personal Protective Equipment that may be required when performing Engineer tasks safely, such as but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, splash-resistant face shield, welding helmet, welders’ gloves, all-purpose work gloves, chemical-resistant gloves, disposable gloves, face mask for infectious disease control, nuisance dust mask, hearing protection, standard impact-resistant safety shoes with non-slip soles, and electrically-rated safety shoes.
Wear fall prevention/protection equipment when working at heights over 4 feet in areas without guardrails, or when performing other non-ladder work at elevations, or when working in permit-required confined spaces where retrieval equipment is required, including but not limited to body harness and lanyard in addition to other required Personal Protective Equipment.

Summary of the Position:
Tishman Speyer is seeking to hire an Engineering Trainee to join our team at our 10 & 30 South Wacker, Illinois property. The Engineering Trainee will assist the Operating Engineer in operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment on all systems. The Apprentice Engineer is expected to demonstrate some technical skills in one craft area (e.g., Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, and Central Plant Operations) and possess mechanical aptitude. Engineering is responsible for maintaining health and safety standards while creating a welcoming environment for our customers (tenants), visitors, and the community.

The base compensation for this role is $18.25 per hour. This role is also eligible for access to comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability insurance and 401(k) plan afforded to members of IUOE Local 399, as well as all other benefits afforded to Tishman Speyer employees per the BOMA - IUOE Local 399 agreement. This base range reflects a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skill sets, and/or licensure required of an individual in this particular role. The base range is also specific to members of Tishman Speyer’s Chicago team, as we’ve considered factors specific to this geography.
