      Job summary

      We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Trust Grade Registrar in Otolaryngology to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with ear, nose, and throat (ENT) disorders. Your expertise and dedication will contribute to providing high-quality patient care, research, and training within the field of otolaryngology.

      The appointment is for a full-time position providing outpatient and operating theatre services to the population of Nottingham. This post is for an initial period of 12 months on a fixed term contract with a potential to extend which will be discussed with the appointed candidate at an appropriate time.

      Main duties of the job

      As a Trust Grade, you will work closely with our multidisciplinary team of surgeons, oncologists, and researchers to provide the highest level of care to patients with head and neck cancers. This post aims to enhance your surgical skills, clinical knowledge, and research capabilities, preparing you to become a leader in the field of ENT.

      The post holder will support various aspects of this busy service, including general and specialist ENT referrals, participating in a 'hot week' on-call rota (supervising emergency cases and ward patients during the working day) with a commitment to an out of hours rota. The elective daytime role will be affiliated to one of our sub-specialties. The post holder will attend clinics, theatre sessions and ward rounds as per allocation in a weekly firm timetable. Duties are at Nottingham University Hospital based at QMC.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      The appointee will be expected to fulfil the following duties whilst in post;

      Clinical

      Contribute to the emergency out of hours rota Evaluate and manage patients with a wide range of ENT conditions, including the assessment of 2 week wait referrals, ear infections, hearing loss, sinus disorders, throat disorders, and head and neck tumors. Perform surgical procedures when necessary, such as tonsillectomies, adenoidectomies, myringotomies, and more complex surgeries within your skill set. Interpret diagnostic tests, including audiograms, CT scans, and endoscopic evaluations, to inform treatment plans. Prescribe medications, recommend therapies, and provide patient education to optimize treatment outcomes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care. Supervise daily ward rounds Participate in M&M and MDT meetings

      Education and Training

      Participate in the education and supervision of junior medical staff, including trainees, locally employed doctors and medical students. Contribute to the development of educational materials and clinical guidelines within the department. Stay updated with the latest advancements in otolaryngology through continuous medical education and research.

      Research

      Engage in clinical research activities, including data collection, analysis, and publication of findings. Identify opportunities for quality improvement within the department and actively participate in quality assurance initiatives.

      Administrative Duties

      Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements. Attend department meetings and participate in administrative tasks as necessary.

      Professional Development

      Pursue ongoing professional development and maintain licensure and certification as required by the relevant medical authorities.
