- Access the internet to research and review available federal, state and local government and/or private foundation grant fund resources to help expand the Tribe's potential funding resources
- Provide assistance in the preparation of draft grants.
- Assist with determining of the Tribe is eligible to apply to various grant opportunities
- Assist with determining if a specific department is a good fit for the funding opportunity/opportunities that are available
- Bring research to the attention of the Grants & Contracts manager and Director
- Draft grant applications for review, edit and submittal and assist with the preparation of quarterly or annual reports as required by granting agencies;
- May write and/or submit grant funding applications, when directed by management.
- Assist in the development of grant budgets, which may include or exclude direct or indirect costs.
- Other grant-related duties as assigned.
- English language, grammar, and punctuation for drafting, contributing to and/or preparing grant applications;
- Internet research principles researching and identifying grant resources and funding opportunities;
- Basic/Fundamental knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations;
- Ability and eagerness to learn grant application processes and how to prepare grants for government applications;
- Ability to learn and assimilate knowledge about various grant opportunities and how those opportunities may support the Tribe's departments and/or programs;
- Ability to learn and assimilate knowledge about the specifics of various grants (like unique reporting requirements and/or other variables that may be different or inconsistent from one grant funder or grant opportunity to the next) and assist in determining if the opportunity is a good fit for the Tribe to apply;
- Willingness to learn;
- Willingness to be part of a dynamic team and;
- Willingness to learn about the Pascua Yaqui culture, customs, resources, and traditions.
- Ability pay attention to instructions and details;
- Ability to write at an Associate's Degree level;
- Ability to take direction;

- Customer service focused (the Tribe or its various departments will be the customer in most instances);
- Draft, prepare and proofread a variety of documents;
- May require the ability to work under pressure to meet grant deadlines;
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills regarding interactions with peers, co-workers, supervisor and/or management as we; as Council members, from time to time.
- Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.
- Adaptability to changing work environments and/or changing work direction.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
- Must have a current Level 1 Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
The Grants & Contracts - Entry Level Grant Writer will assist the Grants & Contracts Department with drafting grants for various Tribal Government departments, which may include research to identify potential funding sources and/or identify and develop funding resources for established, new or proposed departmental programs and/or services.
Knowledge of:
Alternatively, a Grantsmanship Certificate (or comparable grant writing certification) for accomplished grant writing coursework, or three (3) years of related governmental writing experience.
