      The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is seeking a multi skilled candidate to join its headquarters in Battaramulla, Sri Lanka, as an Environmental and Sustainability Officer.

      The incumbent will be responsible for delivering efficient and prompt sustainability services for IWMI HQ, encompassing the collection, analysis, and regular reporting of carbon footprint data, liaising with relevant task team members worldwide as necessary.

      DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Review IWMI's carbon emissions breakdown by scope and emissions for both IWMI HQ and Regional Offices, and publish reports on operational boundary review and carbon emission.
      • Facilitate data collection under the guidance of the functional head.
      • Review greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within each scope to ensure that emissions are calculated using established emission factors.
      • Collaborate on creating a robust data monitoring and collection system, providing insights into system and process constraints.
      • Offer actionable recommendations for reducing IWMI's carbon footprint.
      • Review and validate regional office data and supporting documents to maintain data quality and accuracy.
      • Provide input and assistance in setting Carbon Budgets for all IWMI offices to align with reduction targets.
      • Support in raising supplier awareness about IWMI’s carbon footprint reduction program and promote green procurement while onboarding new suppliers.
      • Conduct sustainability gap analysis relating to infrastructure.
      • Monitor the status of sustainability data collection to ensure that it is current for all IWMI global operations.
      • Facilitate sustainability training and capacity-building exercises for internal and external stakeholders.

      EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

      Essential,

      • Bachelor's degree in sustainability, environmental science, or a related discipline.
      • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience.

      Desirable,

      • Master's degree in sustainability, environmental science, or a related discipline

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

      Essential,

      • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of sustainable carbon footprint-related processes, policies, and systems.
      • Excellent oral and written language skills in English, including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities.
      • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
      • Strong teamwork skills combined with a goal-driven work approach.
      • Demonstrable service approach.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office package, especially Excel, coupled with advanced computer skills for data analysis, information consolidation, and tracking measures.
      • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
      • Proficiency in report writing in English.
      • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills.
      • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
      • Skilled in identifying trends and making decisions in high-stress environments.

      This is a nationally recruited position and only Sri Lankan nationals will be considered. The duration of the contract will initially be for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.
