Apprentice salary Rates 2023:
Aged 23 and over: £10.42 per hourAged 21 to 22: £10.18 per hour
Aged 18 to 20: £7.49 per hour
Aged under 18: £5.28 per hour

Highways, Transport & Operations are seeking to recruit Environmental Apprentices to work within our Waste, Grounds Maintenance and Street Cleansing services
These are exciting opportunities for interested individuals to develop a career as an Environmental Operative.
The role is varied and captures all areas of Highways, Transport & Operations services that include:
Grounds Maintenance including Walsall Arboretum, Street cleansing, Waste management, Arboriculture and Fleet ServicesIf these are areas of interest, then we would like to hear from you.
The successful candidate will assist with the service delivery of Waste Collections, Grounds Maintenance and Street Cleansing operations whilst undertaking learning and development to attain qualifications and skills as a qualified environmental operative over the term of the apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship placement will last for 30 months providing the opportunity to study towards recognised qualifications for this industry that include:
Waste Resource Operative Apprenticeship Level 2 to be attained during the term of the apprenticeship.During the term of the apprenticeship the employee will work across all disciplines within the Waste, Grounds Maintenance and Street Cleansing services over a the course of the 30 month period, attaining an Environmental academic qualification.
Hours of work:
37 hours – Monday to Sunday working, required to work in accordance with local arrangements across the operational services. Annualised hour contract with annual leave commitments calculated in hours.
Qualifications:
The selection process will include a basic initial assessment and an interview during which suitability, commitment and interest for the programme will be determined. To be accepted onto the programme the individual will need to achieve literacy and numeracy at a minimum level:
To have or commit to obtain, throughout the course of the apprenticeship, GCSE grades ‘C’ or equivalent (functional skills) in Maths & English.
