      A day in the life:

      • Provide environmental coordination for large Region 1 projects: work with compliance specialists in cultural resources, wetlands, water resources, biology and roadside to successfully manage permitting and compliance.

      • Be a regulatory and compliance expert on large transportation projects from project development through construction.

      • Ensure compliance with NEPA on federally funded projects.

      • Act as a liaison between ODOT Region 1 and permitting agencies.

      • Work primarily in an office-remote hybrid environment with regular work outdoors at project sites.

      • Regular travel within the region is required. Work on uneven ground in the field.

      • Provide field and literature scoping during the development of each Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) cycle.

      • Coordinate environmental clearances for maintenance projects.

      • Inform maintenance of current environmental regulations and developing best management practices for avoiding, minimizing, and mitigating impacts to protected resources.

      Minimum qualifications:

      A bachelor's degree an environmental science, a physical science, a natural science, engineering, or a closely-related field AND three years of environmental analysis or resource project management experience, one year of which must have included research design and analysis.

      Note: Three additional years of environmental analysis or resource project management experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree.

      • Experience with environmental compliance on large infrastructure projects – ideally in transportation.

      • Experience coordinating multiple partners and regulators to proactively ensure compliance in real time. Includes developing strategies that comply with environmental laws, policies, and regulations and move complex projects forward. Preferably transportation-specific experience.

      • Experience managing consultant contracts for public works projects, with a preference for transportation-related experience.

      • Understanding of federal, state and local environmental transportation policy requirements and work with project teams at all phases of project development: planning, NEPA, design, construction and maintenance.

      • Experience explaining technical information to a wide variety of audiences.

      • Ability to manage time effectively and work well in a highly multi-disciplinary environment.
