      New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking an Environmental Engineer MGP Remediation to assist in the remediation of NJNG’s Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) sites. This includes maintaining a working knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations related to site remediation, assisting other MGP Environmental Engineers when needed, and assuming responsibility for all aspects of managing assigned MGP sites. Work effectively with project teams and use acquired skills to direct the work of environmental consultants and contractors. Maintain project schedules and work independently to achieve remedial objectives while complying with applicable laws and regulations. Perform work with a high degree of excellence, strong attention to detail, and in accordance with Company policies and procedures. As needed, accept and complete new assignments from the Director of Environmental Services to help meet Department performance objectives.

      Major Responsibilities:

      • Responsible for being aware of, and maintaining a working knowledge of, applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and guidance related to MGP site remediation.
      • Effectively manages and directs the work of environmental consultants and contractors to maintain project schedules and goals.
      • Responsible for contract negotiation, contract administration, and understanding common construction practices.
      • Responsible for budget development, tracking costs, and cost projection analysis.
      • Understands and implements project work plans.
      • Observes permitting procedures and construction management practices.
      • Reacts quickly to problems to prevent schedule delays and regulatory violations.
      • Responsible for complying with the Company’s SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements related to MGP environmental liability reporting.
      • Participates in public meetings, when needed, and engages in regulatory discussions to help foster trust, and improve the understanding/acceptance of NJNG projects.
      • Manages multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, adheres to project schedules, and keeps costs within budget.
      • Reviews invoices submitted by contractors to ensure details are correct, work was completed, and requested payments are appropriate.
      • Tracks and maintains NJNG/NJR environmental permits and ensures compliance with permit conditions.
      • Makes competent, independent decisions related to the completion of work tasks.
      • Finds innovative solutions for complex problems.
      • Responsible for competently leading a MGP project team to control cost, maintain effective communication, ensure forward progress, and protect the interests of the Company.
      • Brownfield Redevelopment experience a plus.
      • Environmental/Social/Governance (ESG) experience a plus.

      Position Specifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in sciences, chemistry, geology, or environmental engineering (PE a plus)
      • Master's degree a plus
      • 5 years relevant experience involving aspects of regulatory compliance, site remediation, development and implementation of work plans, budget development, project management, sustainability initiatives and contractor oversight. Direct experience with the investigation and remediation of Manufactured Gas Plants sites preferred.
      • The ability to work effectively within a team environment is critical.
      • Must have exceptional project management skills.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
      • Must be able to work independently and make competent, well-supported decisions.
      • Must be proficient in word processing and working with spreadsheets.
      • Must have excellent attention to detail, especially when reviewing invoices, to ensure details are correct and requested payments are accurate/appropriate.
      • Ability to see the big picture, always looking around the corner to anticipate problems or hurdles.
      • Ability to layer outcomes/wins for the betterment of the company.
      • Considers sustainability in decision making.
