- Account for regulatory compliance and inspections that fall under the CWA, CAA, RCRA, SWDA, and any state or local regulation
- Manage operation of wastewater treatment facilities
- Manage environmental projects such as property cleanup, collection system cleanup, wildlife control, and capital projects.
- Manage disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes
- Manage fixed facility spill response and assist with other environmental incidents.
- Meet with regulatory agency representatives, CSX Operating personnel, and local community members concerning environmental issues
- Provide training to internal personnel relating to environmental regulatory compliance.
- Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.
- Bachelor’s Degree/4-year degree
- 4 or more years experience in wastewater treatment, environmental project management, hazardous waste disposal, or spill response
- High School Diploma
- 10 or more years experience in wastewater treatment, environmental project management, hazardous waste disposal, or spill response
- Graduate Degree
- 6 or more years experience in wastewater treatment, environmental project management, hazardous waste disposal, or spill response
- 2 or more years supervisory experience in wastewater treatment, environmental project management, hazardous waste disposal, or spill response
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- Registered Environmental Manager (REM)
- State wastewater treatment plant license
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (Emergency Planning and Right-To-Know (EPCRA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Solid Waste Disposal Act (SWDA), etc.)
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment facilities to include operations, discharge monitoring reporting and maintenance
- Knowledge of sampling of wastewater discharges and various wastes (hazardous, non-hazardous and universal) for proper handling, including disposal and recycling
- Ability to provide training to field personnel
- Ability to manage multiple environmental projects at once and maintain compliance
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively with field operations personnel and labor employees
- Ability to communicate effectively with the regulatory and local communities
- Microsoft Office skills
- Ability to use Oracle
- Up to 60% travel required
- Travel requirement is typically self-directed, scheduled in advance, and involves short duration trips.
- Work in confined spaces at times
- Wear protective equipment (such as hard hat, hearing protection, steel toed boots)
- Work with equipment that intensifies the heat factor
- Work with hazardous materials on an occasional basis
- Work at elevated heights
- Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard work week)
- May be required complete a background check
- Work outside in all weather conditions
Job Summary
Conducts inspection, provides training, and ensures best management practices are followed to maintain compliance with environmental rules and regulations such as the Clean Water Act (CWA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Emergency Planning and Right-To-Know (EPCRA) and the Solid Waste Disposal Act (SWDA). Manages operation of wastewater treatment facilities and wastewater discharge monitoring and compliance. Oversees day-to-day environmental compliance for an assigned field territory including meeting with regulatory community, interacting with Operations and acting as a liaison with the local community. Conducts and participates in facility compliance reviews and implements identified corrective actions.
