      Job Title: Environmental Field Technician

      Job Description

      We are seeking an Environmental Field Technician responsible for conducting field testing and sampling of construction materials. The candidate will perform laboratory tests on soil, concrete, and asphalt samples, prepare detailed and accurate reports of test results, and communicate findings to project managers, engineers, and clients. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and company policies at all times.

      Responsibilities

      • Conduct field testing and sampling of construction materials.
      • Perform laboratory tests on soil, concrete, and asphalt samples.
      • Prepare detailed and accurate reports of test results.
      • Communicate findings to project managers, engineers, and clients.
      • Ensure all testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.
      • Adhere to safety protocols and company policies at all times.
      • Assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
      • Document the testing of concrete, soil, and other construction materials in the field.
      • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for testing at each construction site.
      • Primarily perform work on construction sites, with occasional lab work as needed.
      • Start the day at the office to pick up the necessary equipment.
      • Commute to the construction site to conduct sampling (e.g., concrete testing, soil sampling, asphalt testing).
      • Use various equipment, including concrete testing tools, wheelbarrow and shovel, air meter, slump cone, and nuclear density gauge.
      • Collect data from 50% WisDOT projects (highways, bridges, resurfacing) and 50% civil projects (commercial or high-rise).
      • Record data using handwritten notes, then enter it into spreadsheets.
      • Return all equipment and documentation to the office at the end of the day.
      • During prime construction seasons, work from sunup to sundown, averaging 45-50 hours per week, with occasional Saturday work required.
      • Typical working hours are 7 AM to 5 PM, but this may vary depending on the project.

      Essential Skills

      • Field experience is essential; must understand the basics of a construction site, including different contractors, safety hazards, and equipment.
      • Conduct testing on concrete, soil, aggregate, and other materials.
      • Ability to produce handwritten field reports.
      • Basic technology skills for using spreadsheets and other equipment to collect data.
      • Effective communication with contractors, owner's representatives, engineers, and other stakeholders.
      • Strong attendance and work history; punctuality is crucial as delays can impact construction schedules and costs.
      • Excellent communication skills; must be prompt in addressing any issues.
      • Exposure to and experience on construction sites.
      • Safety knowledge.

      Additional Skills & Qualifications

      • Certifications: PCC, Aggregate Technician.
      • Construction field experience.
      • Ability to work in all weather conditions and overtime.
      • Attention to detail and effective communication to avoid costly errors.
      • Clear driving record, as technicians will operate company vehicles.
      • Positive attitude.
      • Desire for hands-on experience and long-term field work.
      • Open to candidates with no prior experience; training and certification costs covered by the company.
      • PPE, company vehicle, and cell phone reimbursement provided.

      Work Environment

      During peak season, expect to work 45-50 hours a week with occasional Saturdays required. The usual schedule is Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM, but this can vary depending on project requirements.

      Pay and Benefits

      The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
