  ABOUT WESSELS

  The South Africa Manganese operation can be found in the manganese rich Kalahari Basin, in the country’s Northern Cape, which is home to 80 per cent of the world's manganese. This position is based at our Wessels Mine which represents one of the largest manganese reserves in South Africa .

  WHAT SOUTH32 OFFERS:

  ABOUT THE ROLE:

  This role is a permanent full-time position.

  As an Environmental Officer , you will be responsible to execute environmental related tasks to ensure compliance to environmental legislation in general and specific compliance to Hotazel Manganese Mines authorizations and South32 Standards.

  Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Implement procedural, reporting and monitoring requirements as prescribed by Environmental Legislation and applicable Regulations, and South 32 standards;

  • Assist Review and refine Environmental Management Risk Assessments and Plans;

  • Conducting, coordinating and participate in Environmental Audits and Environmental Compliance Reviews and formally report findings, formulate actions and follow-up on action close-out;

  • Monitor compliance to Safety, Health, and Environmental requirements in the workplace;

  • Manage environmental consultants and contractors in line with the mine's legal compliance and operational requirement;

  • Assist in developing and driving continuous improvement processes.

  ABOUT YOU:

  You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Must have a m inimum of 3 -5 years’ experience in Environmental Management in mining industry;

  • Knowledge and understanding of SA legislation predominantly Environmental Legislation and Regulations is essential;

  • Knowledge and understanding of Basic workplace Health, Safety and Environmental principles is essential;

  • Knowledge and understanding of Environmental Impacts and aspects, Hazard identification and risk assessment is essential;

  • Knowledge and understanding of operations in a mining environment;

  • Valid driver’s license.

  Qualifications for this role are:

  • Serious contenders will have a Degree/Diploma in Natural and/or Environmental Sciences.
