      RK&K is currently seeking a highly-motivated Environmental Scientist II to join our Nashville, TN office. In this role you will use and advance your comprehensive skills in wetland science, protected species surveys, permitting. You will assist with field data collection and deliverables for a variety of projects. You will work on interesting and challenging projects, collaborate with a talented and professional team, and demonstrate your hands-on wetland delineation, protected species surveys, document preparation, and regulatory permitting experience.

      Essential Functions:

      • Assist with coordination and conduction of wetland delineations and protected species surveys with a focus on Bats
      • Prepare Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 401/404 permit applications
      • Utilize GIS to make maps and organize field data.
      • Proactively deliver projects on time and on budget.
      • Develop accurate scopes of work and budget estimates for proposals.
      • Author and review technical reports and prepare environmental permit applications.
      • Taking direction from crew leads in support of bat mist-netting and/or acoustic field surveys, including site selection, setup, teardown, and decontamination
      • Capturing and handling bats, species identification, and morphometric/photographic data collection
      • Safe operation and maintenance of survey equipment, including decontamination of nets and poles as needed

      This role will require multiple day and overnight assignments away from the office should be expected.


      Required Skills, Education and Experience:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science or related field (Master’s preferred)
      • 5+ years in Wetland Ecology, Natural Resources or related field
      • Experience with wildlife field survey techniques, identification of habitat requirements, taking morphometric measurements, and using a dichotomous key to identify species
      • Understanding of the utilization of ArcGIS Online and Collector for ArcGIS for field data collection and assessment
      • Understanding of GPS applications
      • Ability to travel within Tennessee for overnight multi-day trips and sometimes with limited advance notice
      • At least 1 summer season of bat survey experience (e.g., mist netting, acoustic monitoring, roost emergence counts, transportation structures surveys, transmitter attachment, radio telemetry for roost discovery)
      • Ability to work in physically challenging outdoor settings
      • Rabies vaccinated or willingness to get vaccinated; must provide proof of recent vaccination or titer check (risk category 2) valid through the end of the 2024 field season prior to commencement of work

      Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience:

      • Master’s Degree in Biology, Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science or related field
      • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS). WPIT will be considered.
      • UAS Remote Pilot Certification
