      Position Summary:
      Watauga Medical Center is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Environmental Services Worker to join our team. As an integral part of our healthcare community, the Environmental Services Worker plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment within the hospital. The ideal candidate will be committed to upholding high standards of cleanliness and contributing to the overall well-being of our patients, visitors, and staff. Key Responsibilities:
      1. Cleaning and Sanitization:
        • Perform routine cleaning tasks in patient rooms, common areas, offices, and other designated areas.
        • Follow established cleaning protocols to ensure infection control and safety standards are met.
        • Utilize appropriate cleaning agents and equipment for different surfaces.
      2. Waste Management:
        • Collect and dispose of waste and recyclable materials in accordance with hospital policies.
        • Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
      3. Room Turnover:
        • Assist in the turnover of patient rooms and preparation for new admissions.
        • Change bed linens, sanitize surfaces, and replenish supplies as needed.
      4. Collaboration:
        • Work collaboratively with other members of the environmental services team to achieve departmental goals.
        • Communicate effectively with nursing and other healthcare staff regarding specific cleaning needs.
      5. Safety Compliance:
        • Adhere to safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
        • Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues promptly.
      6. Customer Service:
        • Provide courteous and friendly assistance to patients, visitors, and staff.
        • Respond promptly to service requests and inquiries.
      Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and education. Starting compensation ranges from $15.00 - $21.75 hourly. This is a non-exempt position. Weekend rotation is required. This position is eligible for shift differentials if working a qualified shift.
      • Minimum Education
        • High School Diploma or GED is preferred, but not required.
      • Experience
        • Prior experience in environmental services or healthcare setting is preferred.
      • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
        • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public, patients, family, staff, and physicians and acts within the chain of command, utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills
        • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established cleaning protocols.
        • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions
        • Must be able to read, write, and count
        • Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, family, staff, and physicians
        • Knowledge of infection control procedures and regulations.
      • Physical Demands
        • Manual dexterity and mobility
        • Prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting/standing/walking
        • Bending, squatting, twisting, and turning
        • Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less
      • Working Conditions
        • Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
        • Frequently exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment, odorous chemicals and specimens, and unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces), etc.
        • Frequently per shift: lifts, carries, pushes, and/or pulls > 50 lbs.
        • Frequently per hour: bends, squats, kneels, twists, turns, and reaches
        • Frequently per hour: exposed to close eye work
        • Infrequently per shift, may be exposed to Ionizing/nonionizing radiation exposure, including x-ray and microwave
