      Overview

      Epic Credentialed Trainer

      This position is responsible for conducting training for clinical and non-clinical end-users in Epic Systems applications, as well as other computer systems throughout VHC, under the direction of the IS Education and Epic Training Manager. Training is typically conducted in the classroom as well as in the practice. The trainer is assigned application(s) and is responsible for achieving an in-depth understanding of the software, policies and procedures, and workflows for each application.

      Responsible for the set up and set down of the training classes they are scheduled to facilitate, including inventorying and distributing participant supplies. Responsible for quality control, including administering a proficiency assessment and class evaluation at the end of each session, and forwarding ideas to improve the effectiveness of the training to the Manager.

      In addition to training end-users within the facility, the CT will also train additional trainers within the organization, maintain policy/procedure documentation, provide training for new hires, and coordinate training for new software releases and updates.

      The CT confers with analysts and system users to determine training needs within the organization. Formulates teaching content and determines instructional methods, utilizing knowledge of specified training methods including individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, conferences, meetings, and workshops. Selects and / or develops teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, reference works and newsletters. Evaluates the effectiveness of education and training provided.

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred (Education, Information Services, Nursing, Healthcare, etc.). Incumbents who do not hold degrees may qualify if they have achieved applicable certifications and/or requisite work experience in training or healthcare. A two-year degree in healthcare field or equivalent level college courses in healthcare with appropriate experience may also be acceptable with supplemented corresponding experience.
      • One-Two years or experience facilitating classroom learning in a clinical setting. Demonstrated experience in stand-up adult classroom training and one-on-one training.
      • Experience in training in an Epic enterprise implementation environment or in Epic installation is preferred.
      • Healthcare experience preferred; clinical experience desired (Periop, Anesthesia, Emergency, Pharmacy, Oncology, CPOE, Clinical Documentation, Obstetrics/L&D, Radiology, Laboratory, Cardiology, or the Ambulatory Clinic setting).
      • Strong presentation skills.
      • Strong “people skills” and effective communication and organization skills required.
      • Previous Informatics experience preferred.
      • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, email, intranet, internet, and other systems.An ability to effectively adapt to changing curriculum required.

      • Must be able to train physicians and clinical and non-clinical staff on EHR Systems and other applications.
      • Must be able to troubleshoot/resolve basic PC issues.
      • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and issues simultaneously.
      • Must possess knowledge of adult learning principles.
      • Must be able to logically read and comprehend technical and/or functional manuals and instructions.
      • Excellent communication and interview skills.
      • Excellent interpersonal and team skills.
      • Must be able to operate independently with basic direction from leadership.

      Responsibilities

      • Under moderate supervision and guidance from the Epic Training Manager, develops and implements training programs and materials to support users of Epic applications and clinical information systems.
      • Responsible for keeping current with system changes and enhancements to ensure a thorough knowledge of the clinical information systems as they relate to both physicians and clinical staff.
      • Identifies opportunities for process improvement in support of Epic and operational initiatives.
      • Actively participates in customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
      • Uses standardized operational and meaningful use reports to assure that their training is accomplishing the necessary objectives.
      • Escalates encountered situations to the responsible area with detailed and accurate information thereby contributing to the efficient operation of the Epic Project and consistent with the philosophy and goals of the organization.
