- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date
- A master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in public health with specialization in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field; OR,
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, life science or related field, AND, two (2) years of experience in a public health, medical or community services agency, which must have included responsibility for designing instruments for collecting and analyzing epidemiological or demographic data, and interpreting findings pertaining to such data.

THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $8 2,992.00 ANNUALLY.
County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5.
Interviews will be held the week of May 6, 2024. Job offers will be made the week of May 13, 2024.County Fire - Emergency Medical Services Office has an opening for Epidemiologist I. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating emergency medical services data, including surveillance and reporting on disease, injury, and system stress detection programs. The incumbent will be responsible for population health surveillance as well as individual investigation.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of epidemiology, surveillance, public health evaluation, statistical theory and methods, and have the ability to apply this knowledge to a variety of emergency medical situations, including chronic or infectious disease prevention, injury prevention, and system stress evaluation in a local government setting. The required skills include data analysis, database design, data visualization, questionnaire development, and familiarity with programming in statistical software. The candidate should be able to interpret the results of a statistical analysis and have working knowledge of study design in evaluation. The position requires skills in written and oral communication including the ability to communicate complex concepts to the general public.HIRING TIMELINE AND DATES

Minimum Qualifications:Note: A Ph.D. in epidemiology, public health, life science or a closely related field from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency is highly desirable.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
