      Job Title:

      EPN Senior Continuing Education Specialist

      Department:

FAES | School of Environment and Natural Resources

The Environmental Professionals Network (EPN) is a service of the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR) that connects and grows environmental professionals in-person and online. EPN participants can access many online services and are linked to thousands of professionals in Ohio and beyond. Professionals are thus connected in a “community” of people who share their passion for our world and its environment, natural resources, people, and communities -- local to global. The EPN seeks to help those working on and passionate about the environment and natural resources of Ohio and beyond to grow professionally and to be more effective and inspired in their career. The EPN was started in 2012 and was recognized as a Program of Excellence in Engaged Scholarship in 2024 by the Ohio State Office of Outreach and Engagement.

The EPN Senior Continuing Education Specialist leads the EPN and works full-time to enhance the profile and collective impact of the Network and SENR. The EPN Senior Continuing Education Specialist collaborates with the EPN Director, and other SENR program staff, as well as department leaders within Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES), Extension, the Sustainability Institute and other university-based entities, and organizational leaders external to Ohio State, to ensure a mutually rewarding EPN expansion to connect, inspire and grow Ohio’s network of environmental professionals.

The EPN Senior Continuing Education Specialist establishes the program topic, set of partnerships, budget (and necessary fundraising), speaker format, and hosts at least 10 EPN events per year. These events are based upon one or more of the EPN’s six Program Topic Areas: Air Quality; Education, Health, and Policy; Energy, Materials, and Sustainability; Land Use; Water; and Wildlife. These “hybrid” programs feature both in-person participation options with food and beverage catering as well as virtual, livestream participation via the EPN YouTube channel.

The EPN Senior Continuing Education Specialist oversees the EPN budget, including SENR-provided funds, development associated sponsorship and gifts as well as the EPN earnings account. The Senior Continuing Education Specialist supervises the EPN Program Assistant at 40 hours/week and other SENR staff who interact with EPN, and coordinates regularly with the SENR Communications Team for event promotions and marketing.

In addition, the EPN Senior Continuing Education Specialist will collaborate with the Columbus Environmental Networking Tool (CENT) research team and the CFAES Web and Digital Strategy Team to incorporate the CENT system within the forthcoming CFAES-hosted EPN program website. The EPN Senior Continuing Education Specialist will integrate the current EPN Membership system, which currently hosts over 2,200 active profile users, with the CENT to create the Ohio State Environmental Networking Tool (OSENT). The EPN Senior Continuing Education Specialist will ensure that the OSENT system is operable within the EPN website and is available for use by interested environmental professionals and their respective organizations. The EPN Senior Continuing Education Specialist, in collaboration with SENR stakeholders and EPN members, will utilize OSENT to serve as an expanded directory database and environmental organization hub that produces user-friendly tools and guidance for EPN members to enhance professional collaborations and career development. The EPN Senior Continuing Education Specialist will also use this tool to enhance the Environmental Career Ambassadors program in collaboration with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Environmental Education Council of Ohio.
