      About us

      The European LAI practice, a core component of Linklaters’ global LAI practice which also spans across the UK, Asia and the US, is recognized as a top tier practice currently composed of around 161 fee earning lawyers, across 11 offices. It serves clients across a wide variety of sectors, including the financial, tech, industrial, and energy sectors. It supports and advises them in relation to all (pre)contentious matters they may be faced with, including commercial litigation, banking litigation, product liability disputes, contentious insolvency, collective redress, professional negligence, and contentious regulatory, whether in the context of court litigation, arbitration, investigations or alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

      The European LAI practice is looking for an experienced knowledge lawyer to lead and coordinate its LAI EU law knowhow, working hand in hand with its network of experienced LAI knowledge lawyers, LAI fee earners, its EU law and policy team, its EU Information & Research team and other Linklaters knowledge actors.

      This central role is meant to ensure that EU law-related LAI knowhow is being created, collated and shared across its continental European network, to ensure it is easily accessible across the LAI practice, and to leverage and help share such knowhow towards external clients.

      This strategic EU-wide role will be based in one of Linklaters’ EU offices in which there is a LAI team, with periodic visits to the other EU LAI teams.

      Your role

      This is a key role, delivering first-class know-how and learning support to a dynamic team of fee-earners who advise clients on a wide variety of high-value, complex and challenging LAI matters.

      The role will reflect the individual’s level of experience, but will include a combination of:

      Knowhow (internal)

      • In close collaboration with EU LAI partners and EU LAI knowledge lawyers, develop an EU law knowhow strategy for the region, identifying key priorities.
      • Monitor key EU legal and regulatory developments (including case law) and provide guidance/updates as necessary.
      • Develop, coordinate and disseminate technically strong and commercially useful alerts, memoranda, presentations and precedents for both internal and client use.
      • Act as central point of contact in the firm for LAI EU law knowledge.
      • Coordinate with knowledge lawyers from other Linklaters practices groups to ensure adequate coverage of key topics of EU law.
      • Enable a knowledge sharing culture across the LAI team in the region, as well as enable an excellent EU/UK partnership.
      • Ensure all LAI EU law knowhow is easily accessible in the firm’s global knowledge systems.
      • Enhance and develop new mechanisms for capturing, sharing and communicating LAI EU law knowhow (internally and externally).
      • Coordinate the organisation of learning and development activities.

      Business development and innovation (external)

      • In close collaboration with – for instance – EU LAI partners, EU LAI knowledge lawyers, business development & marketing teams, and sector groups, identify and lead discussions on key LAI EU law business issues and trends of importance to existing and prospective clients.
      • Produce and update meaningful materials to support client conversations, in collaboration with business development & marketing teams.
      • Develop EU law-related thought-leadership and client-facing materials, including client presentations and training.
      • Promote internal collaboration and cross-selling to maximise LAI opportunities across the region.
      • Engage in general business development opportunities (for example, taking part in professional/industry working groups; responding/contributing to industry/legal consultations).

      About you

      • You will be a lawyer qualified in an EU member state with an EU law degree and will have at least 4pqe recent experience as a lawyer or knowledge lawyer, with a wide range of expertise in LAI related matters.
      • You will also have excellent problem-solving and technical skills, including drafting and legal analysis, and be confident dealing with the varied/wide-ranging nature of our work whilst adapting to the evolving requirements of the LAI practice;
      • You will have an interest and expertise in EU law topics relevant to the LAI practice, which include (but are not limited to) private international law, product liability, product safety, EU sanction/blocking regulations, collective redress, restructuring & insolvency, consumer protection, new liability regimes, anti-money laundering, business crime, competition litigation, GDPR litigation, Market Abuse Regulations.
      • You will have a strong understanding of EU institutional and legal framework and the ability to follow and synthesize EU legal and regulatory developments.

      • You will have an interest in working as part of a multi-jurisdictional team, fluent in written and spoken English and in travel as and when required within the region and to the UK.
      • You will have an interest in innovation to ensure the EU LAI practice is leading and consistent in the way/skills with which Linklaters deploys tools, processes and alternative resources to deliver an exceptional experience for our clients.
