      JOB LOCATION: PUP Europe - Oxford, Oxfordshire. The candidate must be able to work from 99 Banbury Road, Oxford, OX2 6JX for two days a week. The office is available as a workspace Monday to Friday during a standard week.

      POSITION TYPE: Full time (9am – 5pm, including 1 paid hour for lunch)

      SALARY: Oxford Living Wage (£12.49 an hour for 2023-24)

      REPORTS TO: Assistant Editor, Associate Publicist, Marketing Co-ordinator, and International Rights Executive

      JOB SUMMARY

      PUP’s European Office Internship offers an exciting introduction to working in academic publishing. The internship is designed to offer experience in varied elements of the lifecycle of a book and our interns are supported throughout their learning in the role. Previous interns have gone on to roles at Penguin Random House, Oxford University Press and Bloomsbury.

      Under close supervision, the European Office Intern is responsible for providing assistance to the Editorial, Marketing, Publicity, and International Rights teams based in the European office.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      International Rights

      • Prepare and submit manuscripts, books, and publicity to interested publishers and agents
      • As needed, prepare weekly round-ups for publicity and translation rights licensing activity for the International Rights team to circulate
      • Prepare deal memos for the International Rights team to circulate, and log and maintain PUP’s customized database of contract and licensing records.
      • Assist in researching and preparing for book fairs and market visits
      • Assist with sending out translated copies and contracts

      Marketing

      • Assist in marketing research for key titles
      • Add assets and product photography to Amazon.co.uk as needed
      • Maintain and update marketing salesforce database to ensure current contacts are up-to-date, and that new contacts are added in a timely manner
      • Assist in the creation of promotional assets
      • Log responses to marketing campaigns
      • Assist marketing team with submissions for the Bookseller Buyer’s Guide

      Publicity

      • Maintain and update publicity database to ensure current contacts are up-to-date, and that new contacts are added in a timely manner
      • Conduct research projects for Publicity team
      • Create press releases and press release emails for select titles
      • Saving and logging of review coverage into publicity SharePoint and database
      • Fulfil mailing requests from the office
      • Log review copy requests from international catalogue checklist

      Editorial

      • Send complimentary copies of books to authors, peer-reviewers, and blurbers
      • Solicit endorsements for forthcoming books
      • Help to compile dossiers for the monthly Editorial Board meeting
      • Update and maintain Biblio data integrity for the editorial section of Biblio
      • Help authors with Copyright Information Form and any permissions issues
      • General book research tasks – interns may be asked to research a variety of publishing topics, including sales and textbook adoption/course information, and occasional research on permissions/copyright.

      ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

      1. Research and prepare for title launch meetings and any other relevant meetings
      2. Complete other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the organisation
      3. Actively support an inclusive environment to foster a sense of belonging for colleagues

      Education and Experience

      • This is an entry-level position, and no specific industry experience or educational qualifications are required
      • Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom PUP will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

      This is an office job and requires 40% of work to be performed on-site.

      While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit at the computer for long periods of time. Specific abilities required by this job include typing on a keyboard and viewing a computer monitor 75% of the day on average.

      The employee is required to attend meetings, both inter-office and cross-office, via phone or videoconference. Specific abilities required by this job include comprehending material communicated orally and visually.
