      Job Title: Events Assistant

      FLSA Status: Non-exempt

      Hours: Part-time; various. Includes weekends and holidays on an as needed basis as Zoo special events occur.

      Summary:

      Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking an Events Assistant to assist in the production and execution of marketing special events. This is an on-call, as needed position as Zoo special events occur. This position often requires working weekends, late evenings and some holidays. Typical shifts are 4 to 10 hours per day of event. This position plays an important role in creating a visually appealing image of Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium to the community and surrounding areas. This position reports directly to the Special Events Manager.

      Responsibilities and Duties (include but not limited to) :

      • Assist outside vendors with location and logistic needs.
      • Answer guest and/or vendor questions.
      • Escorting guests and vendors on a golf cart or other Zoo vehicle.
      • Tending to bars by assisting bartenders with more inventory.
      • Be present at event to make sure all is running smoothly; troubleshoot as necessary.
      • Moving tables and chairs.
      • Setting up and tearing down tents, food tables, registration areas and signage.
      • Working registration desk.
      • In all aspects, an Event Assistant will act as a liaison and a front-line representative of Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium.

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

      • Knowledge of special event management and/or operations is helpful, but not required.
      • Customer service oriented.
      • Positive attitude.
      • Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities.
      • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
      • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
      • Ability to follow directions.
      • Ability to work well as a team.

      Qualifications:

      • Valid state driver's license.
      • High school diploma or equivalent.
      • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

      Working Conditions Physical Effort:

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

      • Stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
      • The employee is frequently required to walk and/or sit up to 8 hours.
      • Lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
      • Work in various weather conditions, as well as both indoor event rooms and outdoor exotic animal/zoo environments.
      • Have the ability to move between multiple venues and work areas of the Zoo.
