      Executive Director, Corporate Affairs Strategy and Business Operations

      BMS is seeking an Executive Director, Corporate Affairs Strategy and Business Operations, to serve as Chief of Staff for and reporting to the Executive Vice President (EVP), Corporate Affairs.

      This position will serve on the Corporate Affairs Leadership Team and will be a key business partner and trusted advisor to the EVP.

      Immersed in strategic elements for the global Corporate Affairs team, accountabilities include ensuring initiatives, activities and processes that drive toward the accomplishment of the Corporate Affairs strategic plan in support of the Enterprise goals and objectives.

      Key Responsibilities

      Strategic Planning and Execution

      • Drive development and effective implementation of the Corporate Affairs strategy.

      • Ensure that strategies are clearly understood by all stakeholders and that the organization is achieving its strategic goals at the optimum pace.

      • Oversee annual planning process to ensure alignment with key business partners and across Corporate Affairs. Implement regular processes for sharing plans across the function and more broadly.

      • Monitor the external landscape to stay abreast of industry and functional macro trends to inform and educate stakeholders and incorporate into Corporate Affairs strategic plan and processes.

      • Lead strategic initiatives for the Corporate Affairs team, including development opportunities and educational programs

      • Help create metrics and monitor progress to measure success against strategic plans

      • Periodically benchmark department processes and practices against other companies and identify opportunities for enhancement

      Communications/Skill Building

      • Develop and implement the department’s strategic communications initiatives to foster alignment against our objectives, engagement and inspiration including communications campaigns, staff meetings, open sessions, Town Hall meetings; develop content for communications; ensure communications are meeting department needs; measure effectiveness and relevance

      • Creatively incorporate developing communication trends and methods into communications plans

      • Support skill-building programming

      • Provide communications and strategic counsel to EVP, related to external thought leadership opportunities, events, internal presentations, Board of Directors meetings and social media presence.

      Administration/Management

      • Management responsibility includes overseeing one full-time-employee for budgeting, planning and project management.

      • Ensure the department’s staffing and workflow is aligned to priorities

      • Assign project management support to internal and cross-functional projects

      • Coordinate regular Leadership team and department meetings by developing agendas, recording decisions and action items in each meeting, documenting, and following up on action items between meetings

      • Anticipate and plan for department needs related to our people practices and the HR planning cycle (e. g., calendaring and department-wide communications related to compensation planning, talent management, year-end performance review), in collaboration with Human Resources Business Partner

      • Perform special projects and responsibilities assigned by the EVP

      • Work closely with Corporate Affairs Leadership Team to ensure that the EVP is informed to make key decisions across key areas in a timely manner

      • Extend the EVP’s internal and external reach, building relationships across the company

      • Work with Executive Assistant to manage the EVP’s calendar and assess opportunities

      Support the EVP in driving leadership alignment and culture building within and across the Corporate Affairs teams

      • Partner with EVP and leadership to develop an integrated department culture

      • Serve as a thought partner to the EVP on managing through a transition period and

      • Share out important and relevant information as it impacts other team members or stakeholders

      • Provide strategic oversight to our Corp Affairs committees aligned to culture and ways of working

      Key Competencies

      • The successful Chief of Staff will be a dynamic, experienced communications professional, with a strong track record of strategic and operational work experience, across a variety of settings and topics in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.

      • High emotional intelligence with ability to navigate complex relationships

      • Collaborative and clear communication skills with the ability to build relationships across levels and teams; interest in building a strong teamwork culture and executing projects to completion

      • Strong judgment for problem solving, asks thoughtful and tough questions, including anticipated questions from executives or audiences

      • Excellent organizational skills across multiple work streams/disciplines with the ability to plan and anticipate deadlines and deliverables while coordinating with various members team to close out tasks/projects.

      • Understands when to escalate issues and escalates issues appropriately and respectfully
