Job Description

- Operate one or more of the following pieces of heavy equipment skillfully, safely, and in accordance with traffic laws and regulations: scrapers, motor graders or blades, excavators, front end loaders, wheeled rollers, bulldozers, skidsteer, backhoe, haul trucks
- Create level surfaces, grade slopes to specifications, remove material and thoroughly fill voids using plans and/or a surveyor as guidance
- Maintain equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventive maintenance tasks and/or making minor repairs as required
- Inspects equipment prior to use to ensure that it is in proper operating condition
- Mentor and teach colleagues with less experience
- Perform general labor and other construction related duties as required
- Attend trainings and safety meetings
- Observe construction sites for obstacles that may compromise job safety and/or production
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules
- Understand utility marking and know how to dig around them, along with operating equipment in close quarters of people, underground utility electric lines
- Store and clean machinery at its designated location and note any deficiencies
- Other duties as assigned
- In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, OSHA guidelines, and construction equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues
- Able to read drawings, plans and blueprints
- Familiar with staking and checking grade
- Possesses strong math and analytical skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to process information quickly and accurately
- Takes initiative and prioritizes tasks: organizational, problem-prevention and problem-solving skills
- Dependable and able to work independently with little supervision as well as with a team of individuals
- Basic mechanical skills
- Must know the consistency of material and understand compaction techniques
- Able to compute and set grades using laser equipment
- Proficiently operate all grading equipment with GPS/Total Station (big plus)
- Must have reliable transportation with the ability to travel
- Must have the ability to work extended hours as required by the workload
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record
