      Job summary

      Provide a high standard of trauma and orthopaedic physiotherapy service primarily to patients within Torbay Hospital in-patients and the wider Trust if required.

      We are a dynamic and friendly team consisting of a wide skill mix, working closely with the other members of the MDT on the wards. We work flexibly throughout thehospital as part of the trauma and orthopaedic service.

      We work closely with each other and support all members of the team daily. We pride ourselves on maintaining our skills and competencies and strive to provide the best education to students and staff within our immediate team and the wider team. Our team are always looking to develop our service further and value new ideas.

      Main duties of the job

      To work Monday to Friday on a regular basis and contribute to the weekend service.

      The postholder will work over the acute wards and within a variety of areas according to service needs. This may include fracture clinic, support for day surgery patients, outlying trauma and orthopaedic patients and paediatrics. The postholder will work alongside the team lead offering senior leadership for the orthopaedic therapy and ward teams. The postholder may be required to support home-visits or other similar variances to support flow across the organisation.

      To act as a source of expertise on the assessment and management of patients, presenting with a wide range of pathologies, to physiotherapists, student physiotherapists, skilled non-registered staff, other healthcare professionals, GPs, Consultants, patients and their carers.

      To work with the MDT in identifying appropriate physiotherapy treatments and

      managements. Work closely with both the OT's and discharge coordinators in facilitating appropriate patient discharge plans. To utilise all current discharge services and planning procedures

      To educate and train physiotherapists, students and other healthcare professionals in the physiotherapeutic management of chronic and acute conditions.

      • Evidence of CPD
      • Experience within the NHS in a broad range of settings including T&O, neurology, respiratory, MSK and respiratory

      Desirable

      • Post graduate training/experience in trauma and orthopaedics
      • Advanced Manual handling skills course
      • Bond Salon clinical record keeping or equivalent

      Knowledge and experience

      Essential

      • Working knowledge of a broad range of trauma and orthopaedics, neurological and medical conditions common in the elderly
      • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team with leadership experience or skills
      • Experience supervising student physiotherapists or physiotherapy assistant/technical instructors/support
      • An understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for services, including experience of quality issues and participation in research and audit
      • Knowledge of the relevant NSFs and clinical guidelines
