- Coordinate broadly with external stakeholders across government, academia, national labs, industry research and incubation consortia, other utilities, and technology vendors to socialize PG&E’s priorities for R&D/innovation
- Organize and facilitate large innovation summits and innovation challenges to solicit external proposals for technology solutions in PG&E’s priority innovation areas
- Represent PG&E in industry research and incubation consortia to pool resources and expertise to fund the exploration of a range of early stage technologies
- Coordinate and prepare bids, either as a prime or sub, to various emergent government grant funding opportunities
- Create and manage an ongoing intake process for external technology proposals, as well as corresponding internal processes for innovative technology triage, coordination and disposition
- Support the development of a range of formal agreements including contracts and associated general conditions and statements of work, nondisclosure agreements, collaborative research & development agreements, memorandums of understanding, letters of commitment, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or information technology, or related discipline or equivalent job-related experience
- Job-related experience, 8 years
- Master in Engineering or other advanced degree
- Utility experience and/or understanding of electric system operations, including familiarity with utility information and operational technology systems (e.g., DMS, OMS, DERMS, etc.)
- Experience working with federal and state government agencies generally, as well as experience with government grant/procurement processes
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Familiarity with program management including governance, compliance, roles & responsibilities, methodologies, processes and procedures
- Project management experience or exposure to project management in technology, new product/project launch or utility industry
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and exceptional levels of accountability, self-drive, and business judgment
- Strong analytical and technical skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word

The Grid Research Innovation and Development (GRiD) team is part of PG&E’s broader Utility Partnerships and Innovation organization that is focused on developing cutting-edge technologies for the electric grid to enable the successful implementation of PG&E’s True North Strategy (TNS) and enhance our ability to deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective electric service and advance PG&E and California's energy policy goals.
Position Summary
The Expert Product Manager on the Grid Research Innovation and Development (GRiD) team will be responsible for engaging with external stakeholders to identify, develop and apply innovative technology solutions to help PG&E achieve its True North Strategy (TNS) objectives. The successful candidate will establish relationships and coordinate with a range of stakeholders including government, academia, national labs, industry research and incubation consortia, other utilities, and technology vendors. The candidate will also be responsible for coordinating extensively internally within PG&E to maintain alignment on the company’s evolving priorities, and to champion potential opportunities within PG&E that emerge through the coordination and discovery with external stakeholders.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory. The preferred work location is Oakland.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $118,000
Bay Area Maximum: $188,000
