      About this opportunity:

      This position will work with the Manager of Facilities Engineering (Instrumentation, Process Controls, and Instrumentation) – the Instrumentation Engineer / Technologist is an integral member of a multi-disciplinary function and is responsible for the design and implementation of small to medium sized facility changes to Cenovus’s Canadian Thermal Convention Heavy Oil (CTCHO) assets.

      The ideal candidate is a driven professional with instrumentation engineering experience, capacity to handle a variety of projects, and the ability to build excellent working relationships with teams.

      Responsibilities:

      • Provide Instrumentation Engineering support to plant operations and maintenance teams for Cenovus CTCHO facilities

      • Generate Instrumentation Engineering work results, including sizing and selection of instrumentation, flow meters, level measurement, temperature/pressure measurement, fire and gas detection, control valves and analyzers for their process application

      • Evaluate replacement in kind instrumentation due for obsolescence by reviewing vendor recommendation, quotations, and documentations to ensure appropriate instrument application

      • Development of instrumentation data sheets, loop diagrams, instrument indexes, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), logic diagrams, and control narratives for facility MOC projects

      • Adhere to Cenovus Management of Change (MOC) work processes, ensuring detailed identification, analysis and review of facility changes to minimize risk

      • Submit Engineering Investigations (EI) and MOC requests on behalf of collaborators

      • Working knowledge of Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Directive 017/ECON PNG017, CSA-B149 (BMS and associated instrumentation and controls), and Instrumentation integration to process control systems (i.e. RTU, PLC and DCS)

      • Partner with other Facilities Engineering teams (field and Calgary-based) to ensure alignment with operation needs and priorities and liaise with external engineering resources to ensure results meet quality, cost and schedule requirements

      • Participate as ICE representative in Risk Assessment, Hazard Assessment and HAZOPs as required

      Qualifications:

      • Diploma in Instrumentation Technology / Bachelor in Instrumentation Engineering degree at an accredited post-secondary institution

      • Eligible for CET designation or higher with ASET (P.L. Eng or P.Tech Eng) / P. Eng. Designation with APEGA or APEGS

      • Minimum of 5 to maximum of 15 years of instrumentation engineering experience is required

      • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards such as CSA, CEC, API, ASME and ISA

      • Experience in oil and gas production, upgrading/refining or petrochemicals and experience with SAP is an asset

      • Solid understanding of Hazardous Area Classification and its impact on instrumentation systems design

      • Experience in the Application of Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI / Intools) software would be an asset

      • Valid driver’s license (up to 20% field visits per year)
