Job Description

- Ensuring a clean and safe building by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning, and ensuring entrances/exits/walkways are clear of snow.
- Provide janitorial service, including cleaning and disinfecting public washrooms, floors, walls, tiles, toilets, urinals, and changing waste containers.
- Complete basic building maintenance as required.
- Purchasing and maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and consumables.
- Ensures the security of the building by locking and unlocking exterior doors as required.
- Consulting with staff to ensure that the meeting room and/or permit set up is appropriate.
- Performs painting, minor plumbing, electrical, dry walling and various building related repairs.
- Identifying and reporting building related issues such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical and various mechanical issues.
- Responding to customer and staff concerns.
- Answering general inquiries and assisting public providing wayfinding and monitoring building access.
- Maintains ongoing communication with program, event and customer service staff to maintain a high level of efficiency.
- Provides coaching, training, mentoring and support for part-time staff including directing shift duties and ensuring policies and procedures are communicated and quality standards are maintained.

- Work collaboratively with other facility staff.
- Coordinate and provide direction to contracted services as required.
- Minimum of Grade 12 education.
- Post-secondary course(s) in Building Operation and Maintenance would be considered an asset.
- Possess at least two (2) years of related experience in general building maintenance, cleaning, equipment repair, and customer service.
- Must have a good understanding of Building Automation Systems.
- Maintain, in good standing, a valid Class "G" Driver's Licence.
- Working At Heights or Lift Specific Certification.
- Current certification in CPR/AED (Level C) and Emergency First Aid.
- Valid WHIMIS certification.
- Rate of Pay: $29.23 - $31.75 per year.
- Hours of Work: This is a unionized position that works 40 hours per week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement.
- Hybrid Work Program: The Town offers a Hybrid Work Program. A flexible work arrangement, including the option to work from home some or a majority of the time, is currently a possibility with this position, and can be discussed during the interview process.

Facility Attendant (Temporary)
Reporting to the Supervisor of Building Maintenance, the Facility Attendant, is responsible for the general maintenance, cleaning and repairs of the assigned Town of Ajax facility. The Facility Attendant will be required to maintain all cleaning equipment, assist with set ups for permits, meeting rooms, and council chambers. This role also responds to public and staff inquiries concerns, delegates duties to part-time staff, and engages contracted services when required. The role is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing small building system/equipment issues, the purchasing of cleaning supplies and consumables required to maintain the cleanliness of the facility. The Facility Attendant will be the point of contact for the Building Maintenance division and will be required to report building-related issues (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical and Building Envelope) through the established City works maintenance management system.
