      Position Duties:

      Reports to the Co-ordinator Operations, maintains assigned family of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, including swimming pools, fitness areas (if applicable), meeting rooms/auditoriums, lobbies and washrooms to ensure that the building is safely and efficiently operated.

      • Clean and maintain facility, sweep, wash and strip floors, vacuum, wash windows and doors, clean washrooms, change rooms, empty garbage, etc.
      • Maintain arena/ice facilities and equipment, operate ice re-surfacer, install and remove ice, install and maintain nets, take compressor readings, edge, chip and cross cut ice, paint lines, drain chiller, add oil to compressor.
      • Maintain swimming pool (check every two hours - refill chemicals as needed, change chlorine cylinders, backwash and vacuum pool).
      • Check sauna/whirlpool equipment (if applicable).
      • Check electrical heating and air conditioning systems, perform preventative maintenance e.g. changing filters, oiling, etc. Repair or notify manager to arrange repair, as required
      • Liaise with the public to provide information regarding the facility, arrange room rentals, etc. Monitor user functions to ensure that building security is maintained and the rental contract is adhered to.
      • Contact emergency personnel (e.g. police, ambulance) if required.
      • Set-up meeting rooms for user functions including weddings, dances, etc.
      • Open and close facility, ensuring that alarms are set; doors are locked/unlocked, etc.
      • Check building emergency systems.
      • Maintain Building Automation Program.
      • Assume responsibility for the facility in the absence of the Manager. Record incidents of injury, vandalism, etc.
      • Monitor inventory control and assist with ordering.
      • Maintain recreation campus and building grounds: shovel snow, clear ice, landscape, etc.
      • Perform general carpentry/painting work e.g. build shelves, paint rooms, etc.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
      • Over two (2) years, up to and including four (4) years of full-time maintenance, recreation experience.
      • Operating experience in an arena, pool and/or recreation centre.
      • Must possess a valid Ontario non-probationary Class G Driver’s Licence.
      • Ability to perform shift work with many shifts on a rotating basis.
      • Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal safety equipment and clothing.
      • Ability to work under adverse conditions; i.e. weather, dust and noise.
      • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
      • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
      • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
