    • Experience working with children and adolescents with severe and complex behavior challenges in school, community, or residential setting preferred
    • Current child abuse, criminal history and FBI Fingerprint clearance (conducted by the CCIU upon hire)
    • Clearance as an MA provider by the federal government and commonwealth of PA (conducted by the CCIU upon hire)

    • Maintain and practice an effective safety program with the curriculum

    • A vacancy will exist at the beginning of the 2024 - 2025 school year for a Family and Consumer Science Instructor within the Student Services division of the Chester County Intermediate Unit, located at the Learning Center in Coatesville, PA.

      Summary of Position:

      Provide instruction to prepare students to apply knowledge and skills in the consumer service field. Instruction is provided in areas such as food and beverage preparation and service; personal service; building and grounds service; and protective service. Instruction incudes but is not limited to care and guidance of children and adults; nutrition and meal planning; managing and performing household tasks; cleaning and caring for various residential and industrial surfaces and materials; scheduling work; purchasing supplies; controlling costs; caring for fabric and textiles; custody and security procedures; administrative responsibilities; crisis intervention; institutional policies, regulations and operations; and use and care of equipment. The role involves adap0ting curriculum and teaching methods to accommodate the unique learning styles and needs of students with disabilities, ensuring they gain skills that promote independence and self-sufficiency.


      Qualifications:

      Monday- Friday; 194 days/yr; 7.5 hrs/day; 7:45 AM – 3:15 PM

      The Learning Center is a middle school/high school that serves students ages 13-21 that have been unsuccessful in their home districts. All of the students that attend the Learning Center have IEPs. There are 2 main programs within the Learning Center:

      Options/Options Plus:
      The Options Program works with students experiencing mental health issues who demonstrate an interest and desire to learn but who are reluctant to receive mental health services.

      These students are provided the skills to work cooperatively with their peers. They learn to deal with everyday issues at their ability level and the educational staff provides individual attention, both when dealing with the academics and behaviors.

      Students in the Options program may need assistance to develop strategies to help:
      • Manage their behavior
      • Meet learning objectives
      • Maintain emotional stability
      • Accept mental health services
      • Overcome drug and alcohol issues

      Career Academy:
      The typical day for a Career Academy student is split between a half-day in academic classes and a half-day in their pre-vocational shop program. The Career Academy offers a variety of pre-vocational classroom options, taught by very experienced teachers. Pre-vocational classroom options include culinary, childcare, cosmetology, technology shop, small engine repair, automotive shop, carpentry, horticulture, and exploratory/project shop.
