High volume of individual and family contact.
You will be exposed to a diverse range of customers and will need to respond with compassion and professionalism through a trauma informed lens.
You will have contact with a range of people including some who may be experiencing emotional and financial stress.
Employee's work is conducted in offices, participant's homes, and other community sites.
Hours of work may vary from day to day and may include evenings and weekends.
Overtime must be pre-approved.
Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. If no driver's license, must be able to provide alternate method of transportation.
Some overnight travel may be required to attend statewide meetings and training.
This is not a remote position.
A Bachelor's degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field; OR
A Bachelor's degree in any field and one year of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing); OR
An Associate degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science or a closely related field AND two years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing); OR
Three years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing).
NOTE: A photocopy of your transcripts must be attached to your application materials if using college courses/degree to meet the minimum qualifications.
Experience & capacity to work successfully with diverse populations.
Ability to organize work efficiently and manage multiple tasks with interruptions, as well as manage workload with competing deadlines. Experience with direct client service and engagement in dynamic environments.
Experience working in the human/social service field and have knowledge about ODHS programs and a passion to serve the public.
Experience working in the human/social service field interviewing customers to obtain personal and sensitive information to help determine eligibility for agency programs and benefits.
Experience explaining complex rules, regulations, processes, and procedures in communications. Experience communicating and resolving conflicts or disputes without further escalating or retraumatizing clients.
Capacity to communicate and establish boundaries and set realistic goals.
Knowledge of community resources serving the needs of diverse populations including those that provide services for drug & alcohol issues and the ability to coordinate multiple parties & integrate multiple services.
Ability to initiate and maintain relationships. Ability to facilitate and support families with case management tools and resources.
Possess proficient and adaptive computer skills with the ability to learn, effectively utilize, and effectively operate computer databases.

The Office of Self Sufficiency, which is part of the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS), is looking for a talented individual to serve as a Family Coach in Newport. In this role, you will monitor the progress and needs and make necessary modifications to the family’s case plan. You will assist families through out-reach in various communities, schools, and agencies.
Family Coaches work closely with Oregon families and work is based in the Newport office and in the local community. This position is not remote.

ABOUT THE SELF SUFFICIENCY PROGRAMS:
The Self Sufficiency Offices help with food benefits (SNAP), cash for families (TANF), childcare assistance (ERDC), medical, refugee services, and domestic violence services.
The goal of the Self-Sufficiency Program is to help families address barriers and gain skills and access to employment opportunities to become self-sufficient. TANF is a collection of programs directed at improving the lives of very low-income Oregon families with children.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
This position conducts interviews to determine family need and eligibility. Explores alternate resources and links clients to community services. Completes program applications for program benefits and, if eligible, issues appropriate support payments. Engages clients in family evaluation of strengths. Jointly develops a case plan and identifies the steps the family will take towards self-sufficiency and meeting their basic needs. Monitors progress, needs, and makes necessary modifications to the case plan. Initiates and participates in case staffing, employment readiness, life skills training, and supports job search as needed.WORKING CONDITIONS:
