      Position: Family Resource Liaison, Amharic (0.5 FTE, 20 hours per week/10 months) Office of Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (OEIB)/Family Engagement The Role: The Amharic Family Resource Liaison works closely with the parents of Amharic-speaking students on a citywide basis. The Family Resource Liaison acts as a conduit for the transmission of pertinent information to the Cambridge School Dept. staff and parents. The Amharic Family Resource Liaison reports to the Director of Family Engagement and the Family Engagement Team, and works closely with and OEIB, ELL Program Coordinator, the Student Registration Center (SRC), Family Liaisons, school administrators, teachers, the Office of Student Services (OSS), including counselors, speech therapists, special educators, psychologists and others. Responsibilities may include: Explaining and clarifying the educational programs to parents and community Assisting with respective parent council meetings Facilitating medical appointments for students Facilitating students’ placement through the Special Ed. outside Cambridge Advocating and facilitating students for appearing on court Assisting in cases of student truancy; tardiness, and discipline/behavior issues Arranging home visits with parents Serving as an interpreter for meetings with families and school staff Following up with students who dropped out or left school Assisting with student registration at the Family Resource Center Explaining program options for English Language Learners Assisting with testing for English Language Proficiency The Amharic Family Resource Liaison will serve as conveyer of academic and social information to parents in order to maximize positive relations between the Cambridge School Department and linguistic minority communities. The citywide liaison will perform other related duties as requested by the Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, which includes the Family Engagement Office. Your Skill Set: As a Family Resource Liaison you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications: High School diploma or higher from an accredited college Experience working with parent/community and other organizations Must have good English communication skills Fluent in Amharic Candidates must have proven ability and experience working with parents and people of all backgrounds, good communication, and leadership skills, and be creative, organized, and flexible.
