Supervise, observe, and document family time between children, parents and family members in an office setting or in a community setting.
Keep accurate observation/supervision notes and provide feedback.
Support children's connection to their family, culture, and community by continuously advocating for family time that is trauma-informed, least restrictive, and culturally responsive.
Help parents to identify and articulate their children's needs and help prepare parents for their children's reactions.
Acknowledge the parents' strengths in caring for and meeting each child’s needs.
Support the ability of the caseworker to engage with families.
Support the rapport or the helping relationship between the caseworker and the family.
Support the development of a case plan with the family by contributing to risk and safety assessments as well as comprehensive child and family assessments.
Support casework decision-making and essential casework activities designed to facilitate change and evaluate client progress.
Actively seek to achieve the DHS core values of integrity, stewardship, responsibility, respect, professionalism, innovation and service equity.
One year of experience assisting professionals in one or more specialized social programs such as family services, children services, senior services, mental or developmental disability services, substance abuse programs, juvenile corrections programs or occupational skills programs, OR
Possession of a current certification in child development, early childhood education, addiction counseling preparation or juvenile corrections, OR
45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours of college course work in sociology, psychology, early childhood education, criminal justice, human services, juvenile corrections, or occupational skills training, OR
An associate degree in a field not closely related to social work/human services AND six months of human services-related experience (e.g. work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, mental or physical disabilities, juvenile prevention, health, cultural competencies, and/or inadequate housing).
Must have an understanding of the key elements of child development, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, behavior management and the impact of trauma knowledge.
Experience working both independently and within a team.
Experience using critical thinking skills to make quick decisions while maintaining a professional and collaborative posture.
Experience articulating observations and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Experience conducting work that requires attention to detail, particularly when creating or reviewing documents.
Experience mentoring and engaging with families to identify and implement strategies for successful client engagement.
Openness to learning about diverse individuals and a commitment to equity and antiracism work.
Your work will be conducted in the office and in the community. Remote work is NOT available for this position.
Frequent travel around the county is required. Occasionally, you may have travel that is outside of county and to neighboring states; and to drive in inclement weather and hazardous conditions when transporting.
This position requires a worker with physical mobility including climbing stairs, lifting children, or be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
Your hours of work may fluctuate based on service needs. Occasional compensated overtime will be required, including evening and weekend work.
You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma and may exhibit challenges in controlling their emotions.
You may walk into stressful situations that require quick decision-making skills to ensure safety of those being serviced and own physical safety. This may also be trauma inducing.
