Assist with daily feeding of cattle, and care of livestock. Ensure safety and well-being of the livestock.
Assists in coordinating and assigning daily work schedules for employees.
Monitor inventory levels and order necessary supplies and equipment.
Assists in maintaining the grounds of the feedlot and associated facilities, storage of chemical and animal-health products, safety procedures, and ensure that workers use appropriate personal protective equipment.
Assists in coordinating repairs, maintenance schedules and preventive maintenance of all farm equipment to maintain safe and efficient equipment.
Performs and manages fencing, welding, cleaning, road maintenance, and construction to keep all facilities and structures in optimum working condition.
Operates vehicles and farm equipment including but not limited to pickup trucks, feed trucks, feed mixers, livestock trailers, front-end loaders, tractors, sprayers, shredders, skid-steers, and boom or scissor lifts in the course of research and livestock-husbandry duties.
In close coordination with the Assistant Professor of Ruminant Nutrition, facilitates access to cattle-feeding and -handling facilities, waste-management facilities, and pastures upon request of other AgriLife researchers and support staff.
Assumes primary responsibility for tracking, scheduling, coordinating, and executing all applicable provisions of the Water Quality Management Plan for the Bushland experimental feedlot, including manure-harvesting operations, monitoring, maintaining, and (as appropriate) dewatering the feedlot’s runoff holding pond and associated structures, coordinating periodic manure and wastewater sampling and laboratory analysis, coordinating manure land-application activities, keeping required records up to date and well organized, and ensuring proper maintenance of vegetation in and around the feedlot and its waste-management structures.
Responds promptly to information or data requests from the Center Director or, in coordination with the Center Director, administrators of the USDA-ARS Livestock Nutrient Management Research Unit.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of livestock and field work.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.Ability to evaluate the health of animals.
Ability to work independently once given a project.
Able to move heavy objects.
Licensing / Professional Certification:
Valid Driver License.
Other Requirements:
Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
Exposed to inclement or adverse weather conditions, feedlot dust, and feedlot odor.
