The Office of Sustainability of the City of Oberlin is seeking to hire two sustainability interns. The interns will work approximately 8 hours per week for approximately three months. Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with a proven passion for sustainability. A high level of maturity is required as the intern will work directly with the public and be representing the City of Oberlin.
The work will be done in conjunction with the Farmer’s market board and with support from the Sustainability Coordinator. This position may provide additional support as needed or assigned.
The intern needs to help the morning setup which begins at 7:00 a.m. on Saturdays through out the summer. Interns will help setup vendor canopies. If some vendors or invited guests require assistance in setting up the assistant is expected to help in any way that will facilitate the opening of the market at 9:00 a.m. Interns will setup two hand sanitizing stations, the Oberlin Farmers' Market flag and put the cover over the storm drain. They will also set up the table which encourages comments from customers, three Farmers' Market signs that will be planted in the ground at conspicuous places around the market.
The Market begins at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 12:00 noon. The assistant is expected to help with the take down and storing the equipment in the storage shed. Take down means that two or possibly more canopies will be disassembled, the flag, the sanitizing stations, the three Farmers' Market signs, the cover over the storm drain, and the table which is setup to encourage comments from customers.
In addition to general support to the market and vendors the interns will manage the Sustainability table. Each week it is expected that a different topic be represented. The interns will create a calendar for each Saturday throughout the summer and contact potential community groups to table. This will be done with support of the Sustainability Coordinator. They will also post flyers and social media posts throughout the community regarding the summer schedule of sustainability related events.
Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with a proven passion for sustainability. A high level of maturity is required, as the intern will work directly with the public and be representing the City of Oberlin. Must be able to work with little supervision.
