      We are looking for:

      • A plant Process Technician for our Fine Chemicals and Innovation Unit (FCIU) to work 12 hour shifts on rotation.
      • The FCIU is a plant that makes small batch high purity chemistry and also scales up new lab processes.
      • The role is for a Process Technician, working shifts with a Team Leader and with the support of an Operator for the production of complex chemical processes.


      We count on you for:

      • The efficient operation of Fine Chemicals & Innovation Unit processes whilst complying with all Health, Safety and Environmental constraints.
      • Organise the shift to safely run new and existing chemical processes, closely following detailed instructions, and troubleshooting issues as they occur.
      • Materials handling using Fork Lift Truck, lifting aids and manual handling. Materials include drums, kegs and IBCs of raw materials, intermediate, finished products and waste. These chemicals can be hazardous, corrosive, toxic or flammable. This handling includes packing out into final packaging for the customer and labelling of containers as required.
      • Plant process monitoring including sampling and basic analysis as appropriate.
      • Monitoring of product quality to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
      • Comprehensive and accurate handwritten and electronic record keeping,
      • Compile and interpret results of tests and analysis.
      • Assisting in troubleshooting process operations, including equipment and process related issues.
      • Communication and liaison with research and support teams, to enable the safe and efficient transfer of development products onto the Fine Chemicals and Innovation Unit, and to further develop existing processes.
      • Involvement in workgroup development activities including commissioning of new processes and refinement of procedures.
      • Be responsible for complying with, and recommending any improvements, to the relevant processes in the area following the "plan, do, check act" model.
      • Conduct safety, environmental, production and housekeeping checks and audits.
      • Maintaining the highest housekeeping standards at all times.
      • Providing First Aid response is part of the role.


      You can count on us for:

      • To provide full training in all aspects of the role, with ongoing coaching and support.
      • This is a Process Technician role on a manual plant. The role is part of a team, the incumbent will be able run a process on their own, but technical support will be available.
      • It is a good position for someone who wants to demonstrate existing skills in lab based chemistry or small batch processing of hazardous chemistry.


      You will bring:

      • You must have a good appreciation of personal safety and risk management.
      • You will be enthusiastic and willing to learn the processes and equipment for efficient, safe operation of the plant. You will have a proven ability to learn new skills
      • You should have A Level’s (or the equivalent) in Chemistry or suitable science subjects. GCSE (Grade A-C or equivalent) in Maths and English are essential to allow understanding of technical instructions and complete the production records.
      • You should have good literacy and numerical reasoning skills including accurate simple arithmetic without the aid of a calculator to enable compliance with detailed manufacturing instructions and working procedures to be followed.
      • You will have good communication skills, ability to work well in a collaborative team environment, follow technical instructions and adhere to Health and Safety & Environmental procedures.
      • You must be thorough, accurate and self-motivated. You should be comfortable working as part of a team, but also proactively work alone as required.
      • You should be capable of, or willing to learn how to wear respiratory protective equipment and to drive a Fork Lift Truck. Previous experience would be beneficial, however full training will be given if required for a successful candidate.
      • Appreciation of the risks associated with the handling of hazardous chemicals, conducting chemical processes at plant scale.
      • Commitment to work the required shift pattern

      Additional information:

      • Part of a 5 shift team operating the unit 24/7, 361 days per year working 12 hour shifts.
        • The shifts are 7 to 7 (2 day shifts 7am - 7pm, 2 night shifts 7pm - 7am, 6 days off)
      • Approx 146 scheduled shifts per year with holiday incorporated into shift rota and two training days a year.
      • Requirement to provide absence cover for other Fine Chemicals & Innovation Unit Technicians under a committed hours arrangement.
      • Role is part of the site emergency team and applicants must be capable of wearing breathing apparatus.
      • Requirement to become a site first aider.
