The programme offers Fellows a unique opportunity to develop the capability skills necessary for their future roles as clinical leaders. It creates opportunities to work with medical directors (or equivalent) and lead the development of service changes and quality.

We welcome applications from experienced and dedicated clinicians who have a proved interest in education and multi-disciplinary learning.

The Fellowship is considered a prestigious post and is highly recommended for aspiring clinical leaders.

Applications are welcomed from all healthcare professionals as set out in the person specification.

The post may be of particular interest to optometrists, orthoptists, trainees in ophthalmology, GP trainees, ophthalmic nurses, or pharmacists.

      Main duties of the job

We are seeking a motivated and forward-thinking Ophthalmology Clinical Leadership Fellow to lead a dedicated initiative exploring staff eye health within the organisation.

The Fellow will play a key role in assessing the current landscape of eye health among healthcare staff, identifying unmet needs, and developing evidence-based strategies to promote early detection, prevention, and access to appropriate care.

A central aspect of this role will be ensuring that all activities are carried out with the utmost respect for staff dignity, privacy, and confidentiality, with particular attention given to the needs and experiences of underrepresented staff groups, who may face additional barriers in accessing eye care.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively across departments, engage stakeholders, and contribute to the design and implementation of inclusive, accessible initiatives that support staff wellbeing and visual health.

  • About the company

National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
