      Job summary

      As a BANK Fertility Nurse, youll provide information and advice on our treatments to patients, as well as any emotional support. Youll coach our patients to self-administer fertility drugs, help to prepare theatre and support with procedures, care for our patients pre and post theatre

      Youll play a huge part in a team that strives to provide a world class service to our patients on their journey to having a baby.

      • Assist in the daily running of the fertility clinic, coordinating treatment cycle plans
      • Perform venepuncture
      • Participate in on-going Quality Management by participating in the undertaking of audits and risk assessments
      • Compliance to legislative and organisational codes of practice

      About you

      • Essential to be registered with the NMC as a nurse or midwife
      • Essential to have post registration experience working within an acute hospital setting.
      • Desirable but not essential to have experience of gynae/obstetric, theatre experience, venepuncture and ultra-scanning.

This practitioner has developed their knowledge and expertise in the specialism of fertility care and practice and undertakes clinical practice / therapeutic interventions with patients (and their partner). They supervise the practice of others and are actively engaged in teaching, and quality improvement. This practitioner has a holistic view of fertility care and can make clinical decisions based on an accurate assessment of the situation. Registered practitioner with a UK professional regulatory body This practitioner has demonstratable expertise in fertility care and has experience of working in this specialism. Can plan and organise care and determine which aspects of a situation is important and is therefore able to prioritise clinical care effectively and safely. Is proficient in the delivery of their care, continuously seeking to improve care, patient experience and team working. They work at graduate level and are developing their practice to postgraduate level with certification or level 7 modules (or equivalent experience) and porfolios to support their advance clinical competencies such as sedation, ultrasound practice, non medical prescribing or embryo transfers. Role accountabilities and duties: Quality Uphold the reputation of the team and organisation. Seeks a chaperone where needed and does this aligned to the policy/guideline. Acts as a role model for other team members. Adheres to the NMC Code in relation to both paper based and electronic records. Engages in audits of record keeping standards. Seeks to document individualised patient care delivery. Operational Works effectively with the multidisciplinary team, shares knowledge and expertise for the benefit of patients, the team and organisation Ensures their practice meets best available evidence and is accountable for the care they deliver. Takes part in covering the on-call telephone. Where required leads the effective functioning of the satellite services in partnership with the Clinic Director and Clinic Nurse Manager. People Supports and promotes patients individuality and dignity. Offers emotional support using advanced communication skills. Clinical Theatre preparation and assistance Undertake nurse planning meetings with patients Undertakes patients fertility assessments using effective communication skills demonstrated through patient feedback. Advises on pre-conception care based on best available evidence and clinic guidance. Undertakes treatment cycle planning with partnership with the patient (and their partner). Communicates well with patients and their partners, using advanced communication skills and proactively seeks feedback. Undertakes Folliculogram checks. Undertakes and is competent in extended scope practice such as: FET IUI Biopsy Sedation Non-medical prescribing Uses patient information well to support informed decision making. Is competent in consent practice and procedure adhering to best practice as determined by the HFEA. Is competent in all aspects of medicines management in fertility care and has successfully completed the CARE fertility medicines management competency training. Is competent to administer medicines intravenously and has successfully completed IV drug administration training, always adhering to ANTT. Competent in using Patient Group Directives and actively engages in related CPD. Understands fully the HFEA definition of legal parenthood and provides accurate support and guidance to patients (and their partners) and can advise other members of the team. Complies with policy and actively promotes infection prevention and control, which includes universal precautions, hand hygiene and cleaning of the clinical environment appropriately. Supervise and train other members of the team to ensure standards are consistent. Undertakes venepuncture and cannulation are undertaken using Aseptic No Touch Technique (ANTT) aligned to best practice policy and SOP May act as the clinic lead for IP&C Has completed the abdominal scanning training programme. Undertakes Abdominal scanning with consent and proactively maintains their competency and skills. Ensures the clinical record is stored and maintained in line with policy/guidance. Supports other members of the team when learning this skill. Governance and safety Works within the limit of their expertise and competency and always promotes patient safety, reducing the risk of harm associated with their own practice. Always adheres to duty of candour and supports informed decision making. Identifies opportunity for improvement of practice and uses their knowledge and experience to develop and introduce better ways of working.
