Job Description

Search for underground fiber optics and accurately marking the location
Complete all necessary locate documentation
Maintain daily contact with utility managers, crews, homeowners, and contractors regarding locate issues
Receive daily locates via computer/device
Prioritize your daily work by going through all locate requests to determine routing
Read and understand provided maps to assist in identification of underground fiber optics
Ensure that customers and contractors suffer no damages or injuries due to mislocated fiber optics
Respond to emergency calls in a timely manner, and work periodic weekends or evening on-call rotation
Work closely with GIS personnel to ensure that up-to-date fiber maps are accurate for system and contract personnel
Provide a safe work environment by being knowledgeable of and enforcing all state, local, and federal safety regulations, and company safety policies
Operate and monitor company-owned vehicle by inspecting condition daily
Demonstrate Allo core values-Local, Hassle Free, Honest and Exceptional
Travel to different markets as needed/required
Meet overtime mandates as needed/required
Other duties as assigned
High School Diploma or equivalent
Locating, utility, construction, GIS, safety awareness experience a plus
Knowledge of underground utility construction and your assigned geographic region
Basic knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, and GIS
Skills to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, contractors, and company employees
Flexibility and temperament to adapt to sudden challenges and changing work conditions
Willingness to change schedule at short notice to respond to emergency calls
Ability to work overtime (>40 hours_ and in various locations beyond home market as needed
Availability for weekend on-call duty, as required
Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Must own and use a smartphone with adequate data and coverage to access ALLO systems and processes in the field (phone stipend provided)

Ability to operate a company vehicle and maintain a valid driver’s license
Ability to raise up to 50 lbs.
Ability to remain upright on feet for extended periods
Ability to crouch and crawl
Ability to move on foot up to 10 miles per day

As a Fiber Locator, your primary responsibility will be to locate underground fiber optic cable correctly, safely, and efficiently. This will require that you manage your daily route and schedule within certain parameters and that you are committed to the high quality and accuracy of your work to ensure that customers and contractors can operate in complete safety and with full knowledge of the location of any underground fiber optics they may encounter.
