      About Harris County Flood Control District:

      The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County, which is the third most populated county in the United States, with a population in excess of 4.7 million, including the City of Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county, which consist of approximately 1,500 channels totaling nearly 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins, totaling more than 10,000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks including Greens bayou.


      What you will do at Harris County Flood Control District:

      Harris County Flood Control District is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Field Data Collector.


      This position is responsible for identifying and documenting physical conditions and features of channels and other District facilities for the Geographic Information Services (GIS) Department in accordance with the District’s mission to maintain the Infrastructure.


      Essential Functions & Duties:

      • Identify and document the condition of the District’s assets using hand-held computers, GPS equipment, and digital cameras.

      • Create GIS data required for asset assessment in the field.

      • Update asset data in the District's GIS databases.

      • Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

      Education and Experience:

      • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited college or university

      Experience:

      • Two (2) years of experience using GIS products, equipment, mapping, and computer-aided design.

        • One year of experience may be allowed for each year of college education in GIS-related coursework completed.

      • Experience with Esri’s GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcMap.

      Required Licenses:

      • Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Excellent organizational skills.

      • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

      • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

      • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or assignments.

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

      • Proficiency with Esri Software including Field Maps, ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro.

      • Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying of items up to 11 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.

      • Frequent driving of a vehicle with automatic controls.

      • Approximately 90% of work will be performed outdoors where there will be routine exposure to significant levels of rain, heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, noise, wind, and dust.

      • May be exposed to environmental hazards such as chemicals, wildlife, vegetation, and rough/uneven surfaces such as sloping terrain, plowed or furrowed areas.

      • Some work will be performed in a professional office environment and role will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, two-way radios, digital cameras, printers, filing cabinets and scanners.


      Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards .
