- Performs patrol function or the inspection of City facilities and plants, such as but not limited to, sidewalk patrol, traffic signals, signs and pavement markings, street lights and patrol for winter and summer maintenance activities.
- Ensures that Provincial minimum maintenance standards are adhered to and maintains accurate records of action taken to mitigate deficiencies and follow up.
- Makes minor repairs (i.e. fills small potholes, clears catch basins, etc.)
- Maintains accurate records of calls made and work performed.
- Investigates claims, prepares reports and may be required to represent the City in legal proceedings.
- Must have completed a Secondary School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable knowledge of all transportation infrastructure maintenance methods, procedures and policies.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and drawings in connection with fieldwork.
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and must qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements.
- Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance as required.
- Alertness and judgement to detect and report probable loss or damage to property.
- Competent to intelligently discuss complaints with general public, senior staff and elected officials and record them in writing.
- Ability to write clear, concise reports and keep records in a legible manner.
- Strong problem solving, conflict resolution, public relations and decision making skills.
- The ability to use a computer and an Automated Customer Service System is an asset.
- Must be physically capable of performing required duties.
- Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
- Must be prepared to work rotating shifts/weekends/overtime/on call duty.
